SALEM, Ore. – Another tightly contested game for the Corban University Women's Basketball team fell in favor of the Warriors once again, as they were able to hold off The Evergreen State College Geoducks in a 66-60 final score on Tim Hills Court earlier this afternoon to complete the weekend sweep of the Washington Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) members.
"Every night in the CCC is a tough matchup, and this was another solid team effort tonight throughout all 40 minutes," Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram stated after his program's weekend sweep. "Our defense and rebounding carried us throughout the game, and we were able to add some balanced scoring again tonight, which was crucial."
For the second consecutive contest, the Warriors (5-8, 4-3) were able to find plenty of moments where they controlled the pace of play and continued to improve upon their advantage on the scoreboard. However, their Geoduck (2-7, 2-5) opponents refused to give up without a fight to the end, with the largest lead by either team reaching 11 points and then promptly dipping below single digits time after time.
Virtually every statistical category was split down the middle between Corban and Evergreen State, with the Geoducks taking a 22-14 advantage in points off turnovers while the Warriors dominated the paint in 32-14 fashion. Nine more rebounds, including ten offensive rebounds on the day, allowed the Navy and Gold to secure their second home victory in as many days.
Senior guard Maddie Godwin came off the bench for the first time in her Warrior career to lead all players in scoring with 16 points, while freshman guard Autumn Agnew added 15 points thanks to an 8-for-10 night from the charity stripe. Every other starter for Corban scored at least six points, with freshman guard Lizzy Bennett leading the team in rebounding at eight boards on the day.
Geoducks' guard Jenna Glenzel was the leading scorer for the visiting team tonight with 14 points and six rebounds. Guard Thuyvi Tran added 12 points, while guard Sydney Vanness tallied 11 points off the bench.
Corban women's basketball continues the homestand next Friday when they host The College of Idaho (3-11, 3-5) for a 5:30pm tipoff in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
