EUGENE, Ore. – Another cold shooting performance from the Corban University Men's Basketball program over the second half of today's neutral site matchup with RV Hope International University resulted in a ten-point loss to the Royals, where the Warriors struggled to covert on offensive opportunities throughout the final twenty minutes of regulation to drop their fourth-straight decision.
"Another tough loss for us," Warriors' head coach Taylor Kelly shared. "We played well in the first half and didn't respond well in the second half to their ability to get downhill."
Despite jumping out to a 12-point lead with six minutes remaining in the first half, the Warriors (1-4) hot shooting performance was cooled by the Royals (6-2) own offensive efforts, as they were unable to relocate their shooting prowess over the final six minutes to lead by only one possession at the halftime break.
A 22-5 run by Hope International to kick off the second half was difficult to rebound from after keeping their receiving votes opponent from finding any consistency through the remainder of the matchup, allowing HIU to earn the victory in their second ever battle with the Corban men's basketball.
Senior guard RJ Veliz was exceptional in finding seams in the Royals' defense to score a team-best 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting, adding three rebounds and two steals along the way. Sophomore guard Ben Krystkowiak and junior guard Spivey Word added 13 points apiece, with Krystkowiak snagging four boards. Senior forward Jared Franklin was the game-high rebounder with seven boards.
Seventeen points from guard Nick Hopkins kept Hope International in the ball game and eventually earned them the victory over state lines, with forward Josh Hardiman pitching in 14 points and guard Aaron Wadman adding 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Corban men's basketball will look to get back in the win column a week from today when they host Portland Bible College (0-5) in a 4pm non-conference matchup at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
