SALEM, Ore. – The visiting Eagles of Northwest University took ten times the number of shots tonight than the host Corban University Women's Soccer program to run away with a 4-0 victory, with a brace from NU's star forward leading the Eagles to their sixth win of the 2025 regular season.
"Obviously, this one hurt, but we're not here to make excuses, we're here to build something special," began Warriors' head coach Brooke Alteneder when asked to discuss tonight's result. "Right now, we're laying the foundation for a culture where competing hard isn't optional, it's expected. We're not just showing up to play games; we're working towards expecting to win every time we step on the field. That starts with locking in defensively, holding each other accountable, and playing with real passion. Wins will come, but the mindset must come first, and we're rebuilding that mindset framework from the ground up."
It took all of seven minutes for forward Gracie VanAssche to score the game-winner for the Eagles (6-3-3, 2-1-3), as she found the back of the netting for the first of two goals against the Warriors (4-7-0, 1-5-0) and the lone goal of the first half.
Two minutes into the second half, forward Sara Becerra doubled the NU lead and following a third and fourth Eagle goal from VanAssche and midfielder Hailey Deese, Northwest departed from the Mid-Willamette Valley with a dominant 40-4 advantage in shots and 21-0 in shots on goal.
Corban junior goalkeeper Ava Hayes was extremely busy today for the Navy and Gold, as she denied a career-best 17 shots on 21 opportunities. Northwest split time in the combined shutout between goalkeepers Katie Snow and Ali Tiechner, each going a complete half without recording a save. VanAssche took a game-high 13 shots (6 on goal) while sophomore forward Maya Alston and freshman forward Kate Dickson each took two shots apiece to make up the entirety of the Warriors' offensive chances.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Warriors will return to the OAC for their final 4:30pm kickoff of the four-game homestand, as The Evergreen State College Geoducks (0-9-0, 0-6-0) will visit Salem and battle a Corban squad that leads their all-time series with ten wins, one tie, and no losses.
