SALEM, Ore. – A trio of goals today from the Corban University Women's Soccer team while another solid performance between the posts from their starting goalkeeper allowed the Warriors to secure their fifth victory of the season in a 3-1 decision with The Evergreen State College at the Outdoor Athletic Complex (OAC).
"The girls showed up today ready to play," began Warriors' head coach Brooke Alteneder. "We stayed hungry, found the back of the net, and kept pushing. Loved the energy out there from the opening kickoff. Big props to our keeper for making some big saves as well and keeping us in that game. Overall, it was a solid team win."
The Navy and Gold (5-7-0, 2-5-0) were able to break the scoreless draw in the 16th minute against the Geoducks (0-10-0, 0-7-0) thanks to senior midfielder Abril Dimas Camacho's first goal of the season, as she checked into the contest and immediately scored on a corner kick set play by redshirt junior defender Delaney Fiedler. Despite, Dimas Camacho's efforts, Evergreen State tied the match at one goal apiece just over two minutes later following a thirty-yard screamer into the upper right corner of the goal by forward Izzy Widener who had just received a cross from midfielder Angela Celedon.
After a scoreless remainder of the opening half, sophomore forward Maya Alston scored her seventh and eighth goals of the season shortly into the second half in a two-minute span to represent the eventual game-winner and insurance scoring play to provide Corban with a cushy 3-1 advantage for the remainder of the contest. Warriors' junior goalkeeper Ava Hayes made numerous all-out effort plays to prevent the Geoducks from scoring again for the final thirty minutes of action. Hayes finished with a game-high seven saves, while Evergreen goalkeepers Anna Varela and Katie Gresham secured one save apiece.
Alston led the field in offensive opportunities today by taking seven shots, four of which came on goal and two resulting in Corban goals. Both senior defender Chloe Vanderhoof and junior midfielder Gabrielle Nakamura were credited with assists on Alston's second half goals. Widener was the Geoducks' offensive leader with three shots, all of which came on goal.
Next Thursday, the Warriors will begin their final road trip of the 2025 season with a quick trip down the I-5 corridor to battle their travel partner rival in Bushnell University (6-3-2, 5-2-0) at 4:30pm on the turf at Civic Park, riding a ten-game winning streak against the Beacons into their upcoming matchup.
