Season Sweeps of Northwest, No. 10 C of I Clinches Undefeated Conference Weekend for No. 2 Corban Beach Volleyball

SEATTLE, Wash. – As the end of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play nears an end, the No. 2-ranked Corban University Beach Volleyball team picked up two incredibly crucial wins they needed to pull themselves one step closer to a repeat regular season championship, as they grew their preexisting lead atop the conference standings with a 5-0 sweep of Northwest University and their third 4-1 win over No. 10-ranked College of Idaho this season earlier today in western Washington. The Warriors advanced to 11-0 in CCC duals this season with four remaining on their schedule while advancing their active win-streak to twelve-straight duals and achieving a season-high seven-match lead in the regular season standings race over No. 7-ranked Southern Oregon University.

"We had much better weather conditions today and we played with more fucus," Corban head coach Dan Stephens commented following their long weekend in Seattle. "It's tough playing back-to-back matches two days in a row, and we could see some fatigue creep in. We will work on that this upcoming week as we continue to prepare for our final regular season matches."

Dual 1 – #2 Corban 5, Northwest 0

After dropping a pair to Northwest (4-7, 4-7) yesterday for the first time in nine all-time matchups, the Warriors (13-1, 11-0) returned to their dominant selves with a clean 5-0 sweep of the Eagles in today's match, including a two-set sweep of the sixth exhibition pair as well to represent a 12-0 record in sets played to start the day. The biggest win of the match for Corban came in the fives, where redshirt sophomores Erin Scott and Payton Bazant picked up a massive 21-4 opening set followed by a 21-10 final set score.

Dual 2 – #2 Corban 4, #10 C of I 1

In a replica match score of their first dual in Seattle this weekend that played out yesterday afternoon in the pouring rain, the Warriors' first, third, and fourth pairs all wrangled the Yotes (7-4, 7-4) with the same two-set sweeps they had the day prior, yet the twos and fives swapped results to keep the same 4-1 pair margin as their two prior CCC matchups.

After picking up a pair victory in yesterday's dual with C of I, Masanda and Stokes suffered their first loss of the year in CCC play today to Yotes' Greta Valaika and Deshy Sandoval in straight sets yet kept within striking distance the entire matchup. On the flip side for Corban, the fifth pairing of Scott and Bazant, who were playing as the sixth exhibition pair on Friday, returned to the fifth overall pair and avenged their teammates' loss in the pair played out yesterday to C of I's Capri Salmon and Emily Lettenmaier with 21-15 and 21-14 set victories.

1) Megan Dennis/Emma Bischoff (CRB) defeat Haley Hoops/Sydney Dews (CI) 21-13, 21-17

2) Greta Valaika/Deshy Sandoval (CI) defeat Cammie Masanda/Danae Stokes (CRB) 21-19, 21-17

3) Emmi Marks/Jessica McMillian (CRB) defeat Liza Montalbo/Ellie Baker (CI) 21-16, 21-14

4) Alexis Adebodun/Gabi Engels (CRB) defeat Maya Blake/Faith Faucher (CI) 21-10, 21-14

5) Erin Scott/Payton Bazant (CRB) defeat Capri Salmon/Emily Lettenmaier (CI) 21-15, 21-14

Ex) Kaile'a Ontai/Kylie Strang (CRB) defeat Lauren Gauna/Dariya Tlevlessova (CI) 21-18, 21-13

Corban beach volleyball will turn their attention to a three-game weekend scheduled for March 28th and 29th in Ashland, where they will play Simpson University (0-8, 0-8) twice along with the No. 7-ranked Raiders (8-6, 6-2) before closing out the CCC schedule with a single midweek match at home the following Tuesday.
