Corban Track & Field’s Kayla Morgan Touches Sky with NAIA’s Second-Highest Jump of Season to Earn CCC Player of the Week Award

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office has announced the CCC UnderArmour Players of the Week for the competitions held between April 21st to 27th, where the Corban University Women's Track & Field team was represented by their sole indoor All-American who found her footing once again to demolish the outdoor high jump record in the Warriors' first outdoor meet on campus at the Outdoor Athletic Complex (OAC) in the facility's short history.

"Kayla had herself quite the day on Saturday," began Corban head coach Todd Bos when asked to speak on one of his most accomplished student-athletes. "She had great weather, familiar surroundings, and gobs of family and friends watching. A special thanks for Coach Kelly Holding for her excellent work with Kayla. We're looking forward to seeing what else God has in store for Kayla this spring."

Up until this past weekend, redshirt junior Kayla Morgan had yet to hit the A-standard to qualify for the 2025 NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as she hit the B-standard earlier this season but was still chasing her fourth-consecutive high jump top standard dating back to indoor season of 2024. With some incredible Willamette Valley weather and an opportunity to jump at her home facility in front of Warrior Nation for the first time this outdoor season and in program history, she found that opportunity and was today named the CCC Field Athlete of the Week following her Saturday success.

After clearing her previous 1.62m height and then the preceding 1.67m on each of her first attempts, Morgan had clinched the event win and decided to raise the height up to her school record of 1.72m, which she then cleared with ease on her final attempt. Representing the final jumper in the event and after a long discussion with her jumps coach, Coach Kelly Holding, they opted to raise the bar up nearly three inches at 1.78m, which would represent the second-best jump across the NAIA thus far.

On her second attempt, Morgan flew over the bar with inches to spare and celebrated with her coach and teammates in front of a rowdy supporting crowd behind her to break her own women's high jump program record for a second-straight season. She gave the current NAIA highest mark, 1.81m, a solid run, but ultimately fell short on her three attempts, though her last jump was nearly cleared as the bar was grazed by the back of her leg on the way down.

Morgan will have an opportunity to defend her CCC women's high jump title over the two-day championship meet on May 9th and 10th in Ashland, hosted at Raider Stadium by Southern Oregon University.
