No. 17 Corban Men’s Wrestling Split CCC Duals with RV Westcliff, No. 6 Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. – Two of the final three duals in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action for the 2025-26 regular season for the No. 17-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling program wrapped up today down the I-5 interstate, as the Warriors split results against RV Westcliff University No. 6-ranked Southern Oregon University. The Navy and Gold completed yet another come-from-behind victory with a 30-21 win in the opener against their mascot doppelgangers from Irvine, California, followed by a 32-13 loss to the nationally ranked Raiders that featured sustainable injuries to a pair of key grapplers for either squad.

"We saw great effort out there on the mats today," Corban head coach Nolan Harris stated shortly following their dual against SOU. "Asaiah forced overtime against a nationally ranked opponent with great takedown at the conclusion of regulation. I thought Toni showed composure in a tight match, and Gus rebounded well for a great win tonight. The times we got in trouble is when we got out of position, so there are things to work on. Unfortunately, it's the time of the year when the grind of the season is taking a toll on the body and we came away with some injuries. But setbacks turn into comebacks, and I'm excited to see how some of our guys respond to a little adversity."

The Warriors (7-7) opened both duals by forfeiting the 125 and 133 weight classes due to nagging injuries, once again resulting in an early 12-0 deficit to start team scoring that they would have to dig their way out of to secure at least one dual victory today in conference play. They fell behind by an even larger margin in both matchups after losing the 141-weight class as well, yet another comeback win was in store during their opening dual against Westcliff.

No. 19-ranked junior Jr Downing put the Dubs on the board first via a dominant 17-2 technical fall that concluded late in the second round, but a 157lb pin for Westcliff stretched the lead back to 16 team points. Corban would need as many bonus point wins as they could muster to overcome team score deficit, which they found over four of the next five bouts. Redshirt sophomore Jesse Rubio picked up a 7-1 decision to start the five-match streak, followed by a pin from redshirt sophomore Andres Nicacio in 4:25 at 174lbs and back-to-back tech falls by junior Isaiah Twait (184lbs) and senior Asaiah Kamplain (197lbs) while redshirt senior Antonio Garcia accepted a forfeit win to complete the neutral site comeback win.

In their second dual against the host Raiders, a late injury to Twait forced an unexpected forfeit to clinch the team win for SOU, with Corban cutting the deficit to 13 points heading into the final three weight classes to provide themselves with an opportunity against a top ten program in SOU. Kamplain scored a takedown with only seconds remaining on the clock in the third period to force sudden victory overtime periods, but couldn't find the overtime win over No. 14-ranked Elias Corona.

In the final matchup of the day, the No. 2-ranked Garcia exchanged escape points with No. 22-ranked Sebatian Echeverria, but found the takedown he needed late in the third round as well to avoid overtime and wrap up the dual against his former team with a nationally ranked win.
