KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a historic opening weekend that saw her nearly rewrite the Corban record book, redshirt junior guard Jersey Huerta of the RV Corban University Women's Basketball team has been named the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the national office on Tuesday.

"This is really exciting for Jersey, our team, and our entire program," shared Corban head coach Kylie Frizell when she learned about her point guard's most recent accomplishment. "The high-caliber player that she is allows us to have that returning leader power our offense and maintain control throughout any game, and she's started the year off playing at such a high level. I'm really excited for what we should be able to accomplish this year with her leading the charge, as she comes into the gym every day ready to get better while also challenging us as a coaching staff to progress our offensive playbook to match her level of play."
Huerta becomes the first Warrior across all Corban fall and winter sports to earn a national weekly honor during the 2026-27 academic year from the NAIA, adding the prestigious NAIA recognition to the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Offensive Player of the Week award she received earlier this week. This is the first occasion that a Corban Warrior has been named the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week since the national organization split the award into both an offensive and defensive selection back in 2024. Only one member of the Corban women's basketball program has ever been named the NAIA Player of the Week, represented by former All-American Jordan Woodvine in 2019.
The Kent, Washington native opened the season with a sensational two-game road trip in Arizona, averaging 34.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per contest against fellow NAIA competition. Her weekend included 68 total points, seven three-pointers, and a 51.2-percent shooting mark from the field.
Huerta began the campaign with 28 points, six rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks against Benedictine University Mesa before delivering one of the finest individual performances in recent program history the following afternoon.
In Corban's 89-74 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Huerta exploded for 40 points on 14-for-24 shooting while leading the Warriors to their first win of the season. The scoring outburst finished just one point shy of the program's single-game record of 41 points, established by Woodvine in 2019 as well.
Huerta accounted for nearly 45 percent of Corban's offense in the victory over the Eagles, scoring from all three levels while helping the Warriors pull away with a dominant fourth-quarter performance. Her 40-point effort currently stands as one of the highest single-game scoring totals in the NAIA this season, and her 34.0 points per game average tops all NAIA programs through the opening two weeks of regular season action.
The national accolade continues to have a remarkable start to the year for both Huerta and the Navy and Gold. Through the opening weekend of play, the Warriors averaged 81.5 points per game while demonstrating the offensive firepower that helped fuel their recent success as the defending CCC regular season and tournament champions.
Huerta and the Warriors will host their regular season home opener this weekend, represented by the 2026 Corban Classic where four matchups will take place over a two-day period. The Dubs will host Simpson University and NCAA DIII Lewis & Clark College on Friday and Saturday at 5:30pm and 6pm, respectively.
