SALEM, Ore. – It was all Warriors from start to finish within the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center tonight for the No. 20-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling program, as the Navy and Gold surrendered just two forfeits that would represent the only team points scored throughout the entire dual by the visiting Wildcats of NCAA DIII Linfield University. Prior to the start of tonight's match, the program honored four senior student-athletes participating in their final regular season home dual, which included Brayden Boyd, Blake Runion, Bo Davis, and Asaiah Kamplain, all of whom have started in the Warriors' top lineup across their Corban wrestling careers.
With both programs surrendering two weight classes apiece due to injuries, that left six weight classes up for grabs between the Warriors (8-8) and Wildcats (2-2) with 12 team points apiece doled out purely in forfeitures. Boyd was one of three seniors for the Navy and Gold to each six team points tonight, with his representing the first of two forfeits to begin the event.
True freshman Mason Thynes shined in the first head-to-head matchup of the night at 141lbs, as he earned a first round tech fall over Linfield's Dean Smith via a 20-5 match score. In the very next bout at 149lbs, Davis needed just under two minutes to pin Wildcats' Fermin Carrillo in his final appearance in front of his hometown fan base and increase the Warrior team score lead to 17-6.
After junior Jr Downing accepted a forfeit at 157lbs, junior Gus Menne gutted out an 18-12 decision to keep the Corban scoring streak alive, with sophomore Armando Nicacio picking up a 2:04 pin at the 174-weight class. After Linfield accepted their second forfeit of the night, Kamplain and redshirt senior Antonio Garcia each pinned their Wildcat foes in less than two minutes each to close out a dominant 44-12 dual score.
