KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A pair of sophomores registered team-highs of seven points and five rebounds, but it was not enough as Corban's women's basketball team fell to the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech, 74-51, Wednesday night at Danny Miles Court.
With tonight's result, Corban falls to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech improves to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
Sophomores
Becky Buhler (Clackamas, Ore.) and
Rachel Harter (Grass Valley, Calif.) led the Warriors in both scoring and rebounding, while senior
Monique Tribble (Coquille, Ore.) and junior
Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash.) added six points each. On the boards, Tribble pulled down four rebounds to go along with a quartet of Warriors that grabbed two rebounds each.
With the score knotted at 11-all with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Oregon Tech used a 14-0 run over a span of 5:09 en route to grabbing a 25-11 lead with just under 10 minutes on the clock. The host Owls would take a 16-point lead (38-22) into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, Oregon Tech continued to extend its lead to as much as 28 points (73-45) with exactly three minutes left in the game. Corban would get the final margin to 23 points (74-51) thanks to a jumper by freshman
Melissa Jones (Klamath Falls, Ore.) with 55 ticks left on the clock.
OIT's Kelsey New would lead the Hustlin' Owls with a game-high 14 points, while Brittany Cherry was the only other player to score in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.
As a team, Corban shot 19-for-57 (33.3%) from the field to go along with a 2-for-16 (12.5%) showing from three-point distance and an 11-for-19 (57.9%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Oregon Tech was 27-for-58 (46.6%) from the field, 7-for-17 (41.2%) from long distance, and 13-for-18 (72.2%) from the charity stripe.
Corban will return to the hardwood tomorrow night – Thursday, December 31st – when the Warriors continue conference play against the NAIA's No. 9-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside McNeal Pavilion in Ashland.
