In the opener against Whitworth, Corban got on the board in the top of the second inning thanks to a five-run frame that included four hits. Steigleman began the inning with a single up the middle before senior
Karlee Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) reached via a bunt single. Both runners would then advance to third via a wild pitch before junior
Jessica Schell (Portland, Ore.) walked to load the bases. The very next batter – freshman
Twyla Baggarley (Hillsboro, Ore.) – brought Steigleman home with a single up the middle before senior
Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) registered a RBI via a fielder's choice. One batter later – sophomore
Jennifer Kollaer (Albany, Ore.) – drew a bases loaded walk that plated Corban's third run. Junior
Rebecca Franke (Pendleton, Ore.) would bring home Gaylord with a single to right field before sophomore
Jessie Jones (Gladstone, Ore.) capped the Warriors' scoring as she crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
One inning later, Kollaer led off the top of the fourth with a single to left field before Franke singled to second base putting runners on first and second with no outs. The very next batter – Steigleman – cranked her second home run of the season over the left field fence to set up the potential eight-run mercy rule after five innings.
Sailors made sure that the Warriors would not have to work long, as she went the distance thanks to a two-hit shutout that included a game-high 11 strikeouts.
Corban was led offensively by Steigleman's perfect 2-for-2 performance that included three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Franke aided Steigleman's hitting performance with two hits, while Jones, Kollaer, Sisler, Schell, Baggarley, and Gaylord each recorded a hit in the morning contest.
In the finale against Puget Sound, Corban allowed the Loggers to score a single run in the second inning via a hit before watching UPS explode for five runs in the top of the sixth inning on three hits and a trio of Warrior errors.
Corban had a chance to score in the second inning, as freshman
Brittany Wagner (Oregon City, Ore.) reached via a single to right field before advancing to third one batter later on Schell's single to center field. Unfortunately, the Warriors could not cross the plate as UPS gunned down Schell attempting to steal second.
In the fifth inning, Wagner led off with a single to left center before junior pinch-runner
Jessica Pierce (Kennewick, Wash.) was picked off at second. Following a Sisler walk, Schell register another single that would have put runners at first and second with one out but Sisler was caught off the base at second to end Corban's threat.
At the plate, the Warriors were led by Wagner and Schell who registered two hits each. In the circle, Wagner went the opening 6.0 innings allowing six unearned runs on six hits before turning the ball over to Baggarley for the game's final three outs.
With today's split, Corban is now 4-8 overall. The Warriors will return to action on Thursday, February 26th, when they host NCAA Division III member George Fox in a mid-afternoon double header beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
