BOX SCORES – GAME #1 | GAME #2
REDDING, Calif. – Junior
Rebecca Franke (Pendleton, Ore.) went a perfect 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI in the night cap, but Corban's softball team dropped its second straight double header to the Lady Red Hawks of Simpson, 8-0 & 5-2, Saturday afternoon at Simpson's Softball Field.
In the opener, Corban was only able to muster a pair of hits off Simpson's starting pitcher thanks to a double by senior
Karlee Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) and a single by sophomore
Jessie Jones (Gladstone, Ore.).
Simpson got on the board in the first inning via a pair of unearned runs thanks to two Warrior errors. The Red Hawks first run came via a dropped third strike before Simpson capped the scoring with another unearned run via a wild pitch.
After two scoreless innings, Simpson put three runs on the boards in both the fourth and fifth inning respectively with the later coming in the game's final at-bat. The Red Hawks closed out the opening game with a RBI ground out en route to inducing the eight-run mercy-rule.
In the night cap, the visiting Warriors scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a Franke double to center field that scored junior
Kacie Emerick (Bellingham, Wash.) and Jones.
Simpson put all its runs on the board in the second and third inning, as the Red Hawks collected a combined five hits over the two stanzas.
Corban's runs came in its fourth at-bat, as the Warriors' first two batters got out via a pair of outfield flies. Emerick was then hit by a pitch before Jones walked putting runners on first and second with two outs. Franke stepped to the plate and calmly roped a double to center field that scored both speedy runners to put Corban on the board for the first time all afternoon.
Unfortunately, the Warriors could not crack Simpson's defense as neither scored for the remainder of the game.
In the double header, Jones, Franke, and Sisler collected a pair of hits to go along with a hit each by junior
Jessica Schell (Portland, Ore.) and freshman
Brittany Wagner (Oregon City, Ore.).
In the circle, senior
Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) started the opener going 4.0 innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on a pair of hits before turning the ball over to sophomore
Jennifer Kollaer (Albany, Ore.) for the final 2/3 of an inning. Wagner stood in the circle for the Warriors in Game #2, as the freshman went the first 5.1 innings allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits before turning the ball over the Sisler for the final 2/3 of an inning.
With the losses, Corban falls to 0-4 early on compared to Simpson's perfect 4-0 start in its first year of existence. The Warriors return home on Friday, February 13th, when they host California State University-East Bay beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
