BOX SCORES – GAME #1 | GAME #2
KEIZER, Ore. – Freshman
Justin White (Pleasant Hill, Ore.) and senior
Trevor Winsor (Troutdale, Ore.) pitched a pair of gems, as Corban's baseball team extended its winning streak to three games and picked up its first NAIA West double header sweep this season over Concordia, 8-0 & 3-1, Tuesday at Volcanoes Stadium.
White and senior
Chris Trammell (Salem, Ore.) combined in the opener to pitch a shut out, as the duo allowed a mere five hits and struck out six Cavalier batters. In the night cap, Winsor registered his first complete game of the season allowing one earned run on six hits with a game-high two K's.
GAME #1 – CORBAN 8, CONCORDIA 0
In the opener, Corban got all the offense that it needed in the first inning when junior
Steven Blum (Salem, Ore.) cranked his team-leading fourth home run of the season via a three-run blast over the left field fence for an early 3-0 lead for the home team.
The home Warriors would put another two runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning before registering single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings for the final score of 8-0. Corban plated four runs with two outs during the game, as White and Trammell allowed singles to five different Concordia players with only two Cavalier players getting to second base.
Blum led the Warriors' offense with a 3-for-5 performance that included three runs scored and four RBI, while junior
Jonathan Ramirez (New Britain, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Corban's pitching duo would combined to throw 132 pitches, as the Warriors turned a season-high two double plays en route to picking up the win.
Concordia was led offensively by five Cavaliers – Danny Brown, Sean Myrom, Tyler Bullock, Matt Zappoli, and Tim Reavis – with a hit each, while Steven Taft suffered the loss going the opening 4.2 innings allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits before turning the ball over to a trio of relievers.
GAME #2 – CORBAN 3, CONCORDIA 1
In the finale, Corban scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a RBI single to center field by freshman
Joshua Walker (Oregon City, Ore.) and a run-scoring double down the left field line by senior
Tyler Lake (Medford, Ore.) for an early 2-0 Warrior lead.
Concordia would pull within a single run (2-1) in the top of the fourth inning when Reavis belted his first home run of the season via a solo shot over the left field fence.
The host Warriors would extend their lead back to two runs (3-1) in the bottom of the fifth inning when freshman
Lance Foster (Snohomish, Wash.) scored another two-out run on a Cavalier error with the bases loaded.
That would be all the run support that Winsor needed en route to picking up his team-leading fourth win of the season, as the third-year right-hander needed only 91 pitches over 7.0 innings of work to secure Corban's second shut out this season.
Concordia was led offensively by Ben Talbot's 2-for-3 performance, while Larsen Kohler went the opening 5.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits before Brett Ferguson got the final three outs with a perfect sixth inning.
With today's sweep, Corban improves to 9-26 overall and 4-15 in NAIA West play. On the other hand, Concordia falls to 10-25 overall and 4-18 in league games. The Warriors will return to the field tomorrow – Wednesday, April 13th – in a non-conference game against NCAA Division III member George Fox beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.
