BOX SCORES – GAME #1 | GAME #2

CALDWELL, Idaho – Corban's No. 23-ranked softball team overcame a one-run deficit with a school-record 11 runs in the fourth inning of Game #2, as the Warriors split a double header against The College of Idaho, 0-1 & 14-5 in five innings, Saturday at Symms Field.

With today's results, Corban moves to 16-4 overall and 1-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho goes to 18-4 overall and 1-1 in league games.

On the afternoon, junior Amy Greenough went a combined 10.0 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with nine strikeouts. After pitching a complete game in the opener, Greenough went the opening four innings before fellow junior Chelsea Schriber got the final three outs that included striking out a pair of C of I batters.

Offensively, senior Emma Winckler and junior Liane DeHart went a combined 3-for-7 that included Winckler's eighth home run of the season in Game #2. Junior Stephanie Nippert registered a pair of hits that included her team-leading 12th home run of the season, while senior Abbie Pynch, junior Erica Fitzgerald, and sophomore Courtney Castronovo each tallied two hits in the afternoon twin bill.

GAME #1 – COLLEGE OF IDAHO 1, CORBAN 0

In the opener, neither team would score until the bottom of the third inning when C of I's Nikki Skinner drove in Molly Mills with a RBI double to right center for the lone run of Game #1.

Corban would have golden opportunities to score in the first inning, as junior Brittany Chestnut opened the game being hit by a pitch before advancing all the way to third on a wild pitch before being stranded following back-to-back strikeouts by Skinner.

In the top of the seventh inning, sophomore Lounette Jackson would draw a leadoff walk before freshman Shelby Mauermann took over on the bath paths. Mauermann would move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Fitzgerald, but would remain at second base as Skinner got the final two batters via strikeouts to preserve the one-run victory (1-0) for the host Coyotes.

Fitzgerald, Castronovo, and junior Chynna Sandhop would each register hits for Corban, while Greenough went the distance allowing one earned run on four hits to go along with six strikeouts.

The College of Idaho was led by Skinner both offensively and in the circle, as she went 2-for-3 at the plate and allowed just three hits in a complete game shutout performance that included a game-high 13 K's to remain unbeaten at 8-0 this season.

GAME #2 – CORBAN 14, COLLEGE OF IDAHO 5 (5 INNINGS)

The finale would be a completely different story for Corban, as the visiting Warriors overcame a 3-2 deficit in the top of the fourth inning with a single-inning school-record 11 runs that included five runs batted in by Pynch, a three-run home run by Winckler, a two-run double by DeHart, and a RBI single by Nippert.

Corban would get on the board first in the finale, as Nippert belted her team-leading 12th home run of the season via a two-run shot over the center field fence for a 2-0 Warrior lead.

The College of Idaho would answer back with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run single up the middle by Alexis Macias that tied the score at 2-2.

In the bottom of the second inning, C of I would grab a one-run lead (3-2) on a bases-loaded infield single by Skinner that scored Kaci Baldwin.

Neither team would score in the third inning before Corban exploded for 11 runs in to the top of the fourth inning starting with a two-run single to left field by Pynch and ended with three more RBI by Pynch on a single before she was thrown out at second to end the run-scoring frenzy. Once all the dust had settled, the visiting Warriors held a 13-3 lead.

The College of Idaho would add two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Nikki Shumway connected on her fifth home run of the season over the left field fence to pull the host Coyotes within eight runs (13-5).

Corban would add its 14th and final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, as DeHart crossed the plate before the inning ended in a pick-off double play.

C of I would only get one ball out of the infield in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Schriber relieved Greenough and ended the game via the eight-run mercy rule by striking out the final two Coyote batters to end the game and hand Corban a nine-run victory (14-5).

DeHart and Winckler would register three hits each, while Nippert and Pynch tallied two hits apiece. DeHart would score three runs, while four Warriors – Nippert, Fitzgerald, Sandhop, and Mauermann – scored two runs each. Greenough went the opening 4.0 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits with a game-high three strikeouts before Schriber pitched the fifth and final inning with a pair of K's.

The College of Idaho would get hits from five different Coyotes, while Macias went the opening 3.1 innings allowing eight earned runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts. C of I's Janelle Wiebold and Kayla Park would relieve Macias combining to pitch the final 1.2 innings, as the duo allowed six earned runs on six hits.

Corban will return to action on Friday, March 23rd, against the NAIA's No. 1-ranked Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the OIT Softball Complex in Klamath Falls.
