BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Juan Castillo scored a pair of first half goals, as Corban's men's soccer team completed its Cascade Collegiate Conference weekend sweep with a 3-1 victory over The College of Idaho Saturday on Warrior Field.

With today's win, Corban improves to 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Today's victory coupled with losses by Northwest and Warner Pacific propels the Warriors into third place in the current league standings behind undefeated Concordia and Evergreen. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho falls to 1-6-2 overall and 1-4-0 in league games.

"Overall, it was a solid performance," said head coach Paul Meehan. "Scoring a goals always provides a little extra energy and to get one so early in the match provided some confidence and momentum right from the start."

Castillo would put the Warriors on the board in the game's opening minute, as he took a flick pass over the defense from sophomore Derik Chaney before slotting a one-touched shot under a diving C of I keeper for his second goal of the season a mere 28 seconds into Saturday's game.

Just over 27 minutes later, Castillo would strike again when he drilled a penalty kick into the left side of the goal for a 2-0 Corban lead. The Warriors were awarded the penalty kick after a C of I defense was whistled for a hand ball in the box at the 28:13 mark.

Corban would holds its two-goal lead through halftime, as the Warriors added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when senior Tyler Hagen took a pass from freshman Mitchell Graham and netted his second goal of the season. Graham would begin the scoring play by dropping a pass behind C of I's defense that resulted in Hagen going one-on-one with the 'Yotes' goalkeeper before putting the ball into the back of the net at the 69:40 mark.

The College of Idaho would finally get on the board in the 82nd minute when Joseph Bolin unleashed a shot from 25 yard out that used a last-second tricky bounce to elude Corban's out-stretched keeper for the Coyotes' only goal of the afternoon.

Sophomore Steven Mason would register his second straight victory with a team-high three saves in 90 minutes of action for Corban, while The College of Idaho's Colin Benham-Marin tallied a game-high seven saves despite allowing all three goals.

Offensively, Corban tallied 14 more shots (21-to-7) than C of I that included a 12-to-5 advantage in the second half. The Warriors were also awarded three more corner kicks (5-to-2), while being whistled for two more fouls (13-to-11) than the Coyotes.

Corban will return to action on Saturday, October 6th, when the Warriors travel to Kirkland to take on the Eagles of Northwest beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the state of Washington.
