Hamilton's Game-Winner Helps Warriors Defeat Coyotes

BOX SCORE

CALDWELL, Idaho – Junior Josh Hamilton scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute, as Corban's men's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 1-0 victory over The College of Idaho Tuesday at Simplot Stadium.

With today's win, Corban extends its unbeaten streak to eight games improving its record to 7-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in league games. The Warriors will look to tie the program's longest unbeaten streak later this week, as then-Western Baptist teams in 1995 & 1996 both had streaks of nine games without a loss. On the other hand, C of I  falls to 1-8-0 overall and 1-4-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play this season.

The first half was a scoreless opening 45 minutes in which Corban registered three more shots (7-to-4) than The College of Idaho, yet neither team was able to put a shot on frame.

At the 48:35 mark, the Warriors finally found the back of the net when junior Eliseo Santana teamed with Hamilton for the game-winner. The scoring play began when Santana sent a diagonal through ball to the right corner of the box where Hamilton made one touch before driving a low shot past a diving C of I goalkeeper into the left corner of the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Neither team had many more scoring opportunities until the 73rd minute, when C of I had its chance after Joe Bolin got a long ball and cracked a shot that forced Corban's net-minder to come off his line to corralled the shot.

Just hours after being named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, freshman goalkeeper Jordan Farr extended his scoreless streak to 560 minutes thanks to a pair of saves that helped the first-year Warrior register his fifth straight shutout. Farr's counterpart, C of I's Colin Benham-Marin, also made two saves for the Yotes despite allowing the game-winning goal early in the second half.

Overall, Corban registered four more shots (12-to-8) than The College of Idaho with the Warriors putting three on target versus the Coyotes' two. Corban also earned two more corner kicks (5-to-3), as the Warriors were whistled for 15 fouls compared to C of I's 14.

Corban will put its unbeaten streak on the line on Saturday, October 5th, against the NAIA's No. 12-ranked Concordia beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Warrior Field in Salem. The Warriors and Cavaliers will both be vying for the top spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with a victory, as each team is nearing the midway point of the conference season.
