BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Chelsea Schriber tied the single-season wins record in program history with her 14th victory of the year, as Corban's softball team swept Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Northwest Christian, 10-1 & 4-1, to push its win total to a single-season record 32 victories Tuesday on Warrior Field.

Corban (32-10, 17-3 CCC) was led offensively by seniors Brittany Chestnut and Rachel Conard with a combined three hits and three runs batted in each, while senior Liane DeHart and junior Lounette Jackson added two hits apiece in the opening game. Jackson and senior Chynna Sandhop both drove in two runs on the afternoon, while DeHart and senior Erica Fitzgerald drove in the other runs for Corban.

Senior Amy Greenough got the start for Corban in the opener allowing one earned run on four hits in 5.0 innings of work to go along with a game-high three strikeouts, while Schriber went the distance in Game #2 allowing one earned run on seven hits with a game-high tying one K.

Northwest Christian (5-23, 3-15 CCC) was led by Randi Kostner and Gabby Stover with a combined three hits each, while Stover hit her second home run of the season in Game #1 for the Beacons' lone run in the opener. Parker Bonife would drive in NCU's other run in Game #2, while Kostner plated Northwest Christian's lone run in the finale.

Jordan Bennett started the opener for NCU allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits in 3.1 innings of work before turning the ball over to Bonife, who allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits in 1.1 innings of work. In Game #2, Sarah Lawhorn went the distance allowing four earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.

GAME #1 — CORBAN 10, NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN 1 (5 INNINGS)

In Tuesday's opener, Northwest Christian would get on the board first when Stover led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run over the right field fence to give the visiting Beacons a one-run lead (1-0).

Corban wasted little time in mounting a comeback, as the host Warriors plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a run-scoring single to right field by Chestnut that scored sophomore Kyrianna Sorensen after she drew a one-out walk followed by a RBI infield single by DeHart that scored Chestnut and gave Corban a one-run lead (2-1).

Two innings later, Corban tacked on three more runs when Sandhop was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Conard and Fitzgerald drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to make the score 5-1 in favor of the home team.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Corban would add five more runs to its score when Sandhop registered an infield single that scored DeHart followed by a single through the right side by Conard two batters later that scored Sandhop and allowed junior Courtney Castronovo to come home on a NCU error. After a freshman pinch-runner McCayla Hoffman replaced Conard at second base, Jackson blasted a two-run home run down the left field line to end the game, as the eight-run mercy rule was brought into play with the final tally being nine runs (10-1).

Chestnut, DeHart, and Jackson led Corban's offense with two hits each, while Conard and Sandhop also tallied hits for the Warriors.

Northwest Christian had hits from four different players – Kostner, Stover, Ally Mittleider, and Laynee Bevans – with Stover tallying the Beacons' only run and RBI of the game.

GAME #2 – CORBAN 4, NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN 1

The finale would be a pitcher's duel throughout, as both teams combined to register five runs on 10 hits, as Northwest Christian out hit Corban (7-to-3) in the night cap.

Corban would get on the board early by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a RBI double to right field that scored senior Stephanie Nippert from first base after she was intentionally walked to open the at-bat.

Two innings later, Corban would load the bases with two outs before Nippert came home on a wild pitch that advanced the runners and handed the host Warriors a two-run lead (2-0).

Corban would push its lead to four runs (4-0) in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chestnut bombed her second home run of the season over the right center field fence that also scored Sorensen after she walked with one out.

Northwest Christian would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 4-1 when Bonife ripped a single through the left side that scored Kostner after she reached via a double to right field with one out.

Corban's pitching and defense would not allow NCU to score again, as the host Warriors settled for the hard-fought three-run win (4-1) to remain one game ahead of Concordia in the current CCC regular season standings with eight games remaining.

Conard was a perfect 2-for-2 for Corban offensively, while Chestnut was the only other Warrior to register a hit against NCU's Lawhorn.

For Northwest Christian, Kostner and Stover tallied two hits each to go along with single hit performances by Bonife, Torie O'Keffee, and Chelsea Hannon.

Corban will return to the diamond on Friday, April 19th, against the Raiders of Southern Oregon in a mid-afternoon double header beginning at 2:00 p.m. on University Softball Field in Ashland.
