Warriors Fall to No. 10-Ranked Cougars of Saint Xavier (Ill.)

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – Corban's No. 11-ranked softball team had its offense held at bay by No. 10-ranked Saint Xavier in Game #2 of the Concordia (Ore.) Bracket falling 2-0 in the NAIA Opening Rounds Tuesday at Delta Park.

Corban (41-14) got hits from the senior duo of Chynna Sandhop and Liane DeHart, while the Warriors were struck out 12 times during the game.

Senior Chelsea Schriber got the start for Corban allowing two earned runs on five hits in 4.0 innings of work before fellow senior Amy Greenough took over in the circle allowing just one hit in 2.0 innings.

Saint Xavier (48-6) was led offensively by Shannon Lauret and Megan James with two hits each, while Megan Nonnemacher went the distance for the Cougars allowing just two hits with a game-high 12 strikeouts.

The game's only two runs came in the bottom of the second inning when Lauret drove home Ariel Hinton with a single through the left side for the eventual game-winning run, while James brought home Holly Hilden on an infield single for a two-run lead (2-0).

In the top of the third inning, DeHart broke up Nonnemacher's no-hitter with a single to third base but did not come around to score.

The Warriors' best scoring opportunity came in the top of the fifth inning when Sandhop led off with a triple to right field, but was stranded sixty feet away from home after Nonnemacher struck out the remaining three batters to end the threat.

Over the final two innings, Corban would go quietly into the night thanks to Saint Xavier's pitching and defense as the Warriors moved into the second elimination game of the day thanks to a 2-0 loss at the hands of the nationally-ranked Cougars.

Corban will return to the diamond today against Concordia beginning at 3:00 p.m., as Saint Xavier moves to tomorrow's championship game that will be played at 12:00 p.m. at Delta Park in Portland.
