Corban Continues California Trip With Loss at Westmont

BOX SCORE SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Westmont College used five pitchers and allowed just five hits while scattering eight walks in a 7-2 victory over Corban University on Thursday.

Corban (2-2) pushed home two runs in the opening inning when leadoff hitter Marc Gallegos drew a base on balls, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Landon Frost was hit by a pitch and Gallegos scored on a balk.  Daniel Orr scored Frost with an RBI single for the early 2-0 lead.

Westmont (7-6) quickly tied the contest with two unearned runs off starter Austin Guzzon in the bottom of the first using a pair of hits and two visitor errors.

The hosts took the lead for good in the third with a single and RBI double.  A solo home run in the fourth extended their advantage, 4-2.  Westmont broke the game open in the fifth scoring three times off reliever Jordan Johansen on four consecutive hits.

Gallagos led Corban with two hits.  Guzzon suffered the loss allowing four runs on five hits in four innings of work.  He struck out four.  Daniel Gober tossed 3.2 scoreless innings of relief giving up a lone hit and striking out four.

"We didn't follow up yesterday's big win with as good an effort as we should have," said coach Jeff McKay.  "Westmont pitched us tough and we didn't make good adjustments, but we enjoyed playing on a beautiful day on a very nice Westmont facility."

The originally scheduled doubleheader versus Pacifica College on Friday has been cancelled.  Corban travels to No. 9-ranked Concordia University-Irvine for a Sunday game at 2 pm.
