No. 9 Concordia-Irvine Tops Warriors, 9-4

BOX SCORE IRVINE, Calif. – No. 9-ranked Concordia University-Irvine scored in each of the first five innings to cruise to a 9-4 victory over Corban University.  The Warriors play The Masters College and Biola University on Monday to end their California trip.
 
Concordia-Irvine scored in the first inning off starter Daniel Aranda with a two-out triple and a passed ball.  With the bases loaded in the second, Robert Shiroky stroked his second triple in two innings giving the Eagles (13-4) a 4-0 lead.
 
Three errors by the Warriors (2-3) led to an unearned run in the third.  Concordia-Irvine used a RBI triple and RBI single in the fourth to increase its advantage to 7-0.
 
Jordan Johansen got things going for Corban leading off the fifth with a base hit.  A single by Marc Gallegos scored Johansen and Daniel Orr delivered a run-scoring hit to trim the deficit at 7-2.  However, the Eagles got both runs back in the bottom of the frame, plating one with a single and another with a groundout.
 
In the seventh the Warriors finished the scoring with two unearned runs.  Stockton Taylor and Johansen each had RBI singles in the inning.

"Concordia-Irvine capitalized well on our early mistakes as good teams do," head coach Jeff McKay said.  "They played up to their No. 9 ranking.  We are looking forward to playing two more very good teams tomorrow before heading home."
 
Taylor and Johansen had two hits in the ballgame for Corban.  Aranda took the loss on the hill, allowing seven runs – five earned –  on six hits in 3.1 innings.  He struck out four and walked four.  The Warriors had seven hits and the Eagles tallied eight.
