Oregon Tech Pitching Stops Corban Offense

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 KLAMATH FALLS – Corban ran into a couple of tough pitchers on the opening day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference softball season Friday and fell by 10-2 and 5-0 scores to No. 25-ranked Oregon Tech.

The Warriors are now 13-7 for the season, while the Owls improved their mark to 9-5

OREGON TECH 10, CORBAN 2 (Box Score)

The Owls ended this game via the run rule in the fifth inning. Cassidy Olson limited the Warriors to just three hits in the opener to improve her season record to 4-3.

Corban got on the board with a run in the first inning but had another runner cut down at the plate for the final out. Taylor Eilders led off with a single, Kylie Durre bunted for a base hit, and Kyrianna Sorensen walked to load the bases with no outs. Eilders scored on Breonna Bajaran's fielder's choice grounder, but on Lounette Jackson's fly ball to the outfield Durre was gunned down at the plate.

Oregon Tech took that momentum and scored two runs on three hits in the first inning and four more runs on four hits, including a three-run homer by Tori Weatherford, in the second.

Sorensen hit a third-inning double to drive in Corban's second run of the game, but Oregon Tech scored two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to end the first game. The Owls finished with 13 hits against Corban pitcher Jessica Slate.

OREGON TECH 5, CORBAN 0 (Box Score)

Jessi Duncan improved her season record to 4-2, allowing only three hits and striking out 11 in a complete-game performance.

The hosts scored a run in the first, and then added four more on four hits in the sixth inning.

The Warriors had two runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't come up with a clutch base hit against Duncan.

Jessica Holsinger went the distance for the Warriors, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out six.

"We really had a difficult time getting things going today on both sides of the ball," Corban head coach Nathan Ohta said. "Taylor Eilders had a very good day and was the bright spot for us." Eilders reached base five times in her seven plate appearances.

"I think the girls know that today wasn't a typical day on the field for us and that we are capable of playing much better," Ohta added. "I am excited to see how they will rebound tomorrow."

The Warriors return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday with a CCC doubleheader against Southern Oregon in Ashland.
