BOX SCORE 2 FULLERTON, Calif. –
Kyrianna Sorensen had two home runs among her five hits, and
Jessica Slate and
Danielle Horne had complete-game pitching performances Tuesday afternoon as Corban swept Hope International, 7-0 and 5-4, in non-conference softball games played at Craig Park.
After starting their 10-game Southern California road trip with a loss, the Warriors have won three straight to improve their season record to 9-3. Hope International is now 6-4 this season.

Slate handled the Royals, retiring the side in order in five of the seven innings. In the two innings that the hosts got anything going, the junior right-hander from Aumsville made big pitches. HIU put runners on second and third with one out in the second, but Slate coaxed a pop up before recording one of her two strikeouts. In the fifth, three singles loaded the bases with two out before a pop up ended that threat. Slate improved her season record to 3-0.
With Slate having her way in the circle, Sorensen led the offense with a run-scoring double in the first and solo homers in the fourth and sixth innings. She finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
"Our offense came out and really put the pressure on them in game one. Kyrianna got into a couple balls really well, and the rest of the team kept it rolling from there. Jess Slate gave us another great outing tonight and dominated from start to finish," Corban head coach
Nathan Ohta said.
Corban opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run rally in the first.
Breonna Bejaran, who finished with two hits, drove a double and scored on a single by
Kylie Durre, who then came home on Sorensen's double.
Sorensen sandwiched her home runs around a fifth inning run generated by
Danielle Ackerman. Pinch hitting and leading off, Ackerman drew a walk, stole second and came home on an error.
Aubrene Blas drove in the final two runs in the top of the seventh with a single.
CORBAN 5, HOPE INTERNATIONAL 4 / 8 innings (
Box Score)
The Warriors won the game in the first extra inning, scoring twice and then holding the Royals to one in the bottom of the frame.
Horne battled through some adversity to earn her second win against one defeat this season. She went the eight-inning distance, allowing four runs, only two of which were earned, on four hits while walking four and striking out three.
"In game two their pitcher did a good job keeping us off balance and pitching out of trouble," Ohta said. "It was one of those games where we kept getting chances and you knew that as long as we could hold them we were going to break through. Dani Horne did a great job for us in the circle, and even though we made some mistakes behind her that could have really hurt us, she just kept pounding the strike zone and getting the big outs we needed."
Corban struck for two in the second on a single by Sorensen and a two-run homer by
Courtney Castronovo. Hope got one back in the bottom of the inning, but the Warriors responded in the top of the third when Sorensen hit a two-out single to score
Annie Owen, who led off the frame with a double.
HIU scored a run on two hits in the bottom of the third and then tied it, due to three Corban errors, at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, both teams started their turn at bat in the eighth with a runner on second. Sorensen started at second base, advanced to third on Castronovo's single and then scored on a sacrifice fly by
Lounette Jackson. Castronovo eventually came in on a base hit by
Taylor Eilders.
Hope scored a run in the eighth on a wild pitch before Horne recorded a game-ending strikeout in the fading light.
Castronovo finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI while Sorensen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI to lead Corban's nine-hit attack.
"We used a lot of players and they all contributed to our wins," Ohta said. "It was a great team effort today."
The Warriors continue their 10-games-in-five-days road trip on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Biola at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa.
