Early Deficit Too Much for Corban to Overcome

BOX SCORE NEWBERG, Ore. - Corban fell behind 6-0 after the first three innings and couldn't recover Thursday in dropping a non-league baseball game, 7-2, to the host George Fox Bruins at Morse Field.

With the victory, George Fox improves its season record to 26-10, while the defeat drops the Warriors to 27-23.

The Bruins scored one run in the first inning and added five in the third to build its 6-0 advantage.

Corban scored a run in the fifth on singles by Vince Gonzalez, Jackson Smith and Landon Frost, and it added a run in the sixth on a single by Davis Alderman and double by Gonzalez. The Warriors had their chances, out-hitting the Bruins 11-9, including three hits apiece by Gonzalez and Smith and two by Frost. Clay Gartner, who improved his pitching record to 10-1, escaped several jams as the Warriors ended up leaving 11 runners on base.

Eli Driessen, the first of seven Warriors to take the mound, took the loss and is now 2-3 this season.

The teams face each other against this Saturday when they play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
