LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office announced the CCC Red Lion® NAIA West Pitcher of the Week on Monday, tabbing Corban University junior righty Thomas Kerr (Olympia, Wash.) as the recipient of this week's award. For the Warriors, it is their second conference pitcher of the week award of the 2016 campaign.
For Kerr, it marks his first-ever conference pitcher of the week honor with Corban.
"Thomas' performance was very impressive and I am thankful to see him recognized with this award," said Corban head coach Jeff McKay. "He has really made a lot of changes in his delivery to improve his control, and his ability to command the strike zone was the key for him against a very good team. His high strikeout number was a good indication of how good his stuff was that day. Pitching Coach Caleb Virtue's pitch calling also helped him to be effective."
Kerr tossed a gem against No. 2-ranked Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday, throwing six innings while striking out nine LCSC batters. He only allowed one run in the performance on the mound, setting up Corban nicely for a late-inning comeback victory over LC State.
Corban won the game, 3-1, snapping a 14-game losing skid against LCSC. The win was Corban's sixth ever vs. the highly-rated LCSC Warriors, and the triumph also stopped LCSC's 10-game winning streak it had going during the 2016 season.
