Adeoye, Sagert, and Swoboda Lead the Way for Corban Track & Field at Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Though only a handful of athletes from the Corban men's and women's track & field rosters made the trip to Linfield College for Saturday's Jenn Boyman Invitational, the Warriors still saw a number of strong performances at the meet.

RESULTS

The best among these were courtesy of Victoria Adeoye, Andrew Sagert, and Robert Swoboda, who each qualified for the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships on May 10-11 in their respective events.

"We had another good day today," said head coach Norm Berney. "Victoria qualified for the conference championships in her first collegiate meet, Andrew won in his second-ever steeplechase, and Robert ran a great race to qualify in his premier in the 10K."

Debuting for the Navy and Gold, Adeoye unleashed an impressive throw in the discus, registering a mark of 100'7" to punch her ticket to Ashland, Ore for the CCC meet. She placed 12th among the field of 26.

For the men, the spotlight shined bright on Andrew Sagert, who won the steeplechase in just his second time competing in the event. The sophomore from Battle Ground, Wash. finished with a time of 10:27.16, nearly a full minute ahead of the runner-up finisher.

Also competing in unfamiliar territory was standout distance runner Robert Swoboda, who made his debut in the 10,000 meters on Saturday. Swoboda showed no signs of discomfort in the event, however, registering a time of 32:28.77 to place third individually. Though he had already qualified for the CCC Championships in the 5,000 meters, Swoboda has now also guaranteed his spot in the 10,000 meters at the postseason meet.

The number of conference and national qualifiers continues to rise for the Corban men's and women's track & field teams, as Berney aims to keep building momentum in the back half Spring campaign.

The Warriors will return to action next weekend for the Pacific Luau Invitational, hosted by Pacific University. Next Saturday's events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in Forest Grove, Ore.
