SALEM, Ore. – After COVID severely limited the No. 17-ranked Corban University women's wrestling team's inaugural season in 2020-21, the Warriors finally got to make their long-awaited home debut on Thursday. The squad did not disappoint, registering a trio of pins in a dominating 35-5 victory over No. 20 Simpson University in front of a packed crowd at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
"We were more aggressive today," said head coach Stryder Davis after the historic victory. "We brought the fight to them. Wrestling is a very physical sport; and I was happy to see us flex our muscles tonight."

The Red Hawks failed to field competitors in six weight classes, resulting in six forfeit wins for the Navy and Gold in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) bout.
In the four matches that did take place, the Warriors dominated, earning three wins by fall.
After Simpson claimed the 109-pound clash via a Melanie Salazar pin of Brooke Burrows, No. 22-ranked Tess Barnett etched her name in the history books with a pin of Aphrodite Ayala (0:57) at 116 pounds. Barnett's triumph marks the program's first ever match win at home.

In the 123-pound match, No. 19-ranked Iyazely Barraza followed up Barnett's pin with one of her own, taking just 21 seconds to defeat Alysa Moreno.
The final win by fall came courtesy of No. 7 Ivy Kraght, who was victorious over Simpson's Julia Casillas in less than 50 seconds (fall, 0:48).
It's a fitting first chapter at home for the program, which has waited patiently for its opportunity to shine in front of Warrior fans. Thursday's triumph adds only further excitement for the team's future.
The Warriors (1-0) will return to tournament competition this weekend, competing in the Spokane Open on Sunday, November 21.
