Corban Women’s Wrestling Wraps Up Regular Season with Loss to No. 17 EOU

SALEM, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University women's wrestling team concluded its 2021-22 regular-season schedule on Thursday evening, falling in a dual with Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) rival Eastern Oregon University—ranked 17th in the NAIA Coaches' Top-20 Poll—by a final tally of 34-9.

"This season had been unfortunate in terms of injuries, but this group that is healthy hasn't let it bother them," head coach Stryder Davis said afterwards. "They compete hard and show up every day and grind. I'm proud of them."

Kendall Martin and No. 13 Alexys Zepeda shined brightest for the Warriors in the defeat, with Martin collecting a dominating win (fall, 0:30) in the 116-pound matchup with Irma Retano.

The premier battle of the evening was in the 155-pound face-off, where Zepeda and sixth-ranked Dempsi Talkington squared off in an NAIA Top-20 match.

Zepeda proved victorious at the end of a gritty duel, edging Talkington in a defensive showdown (decision, 3-1).

Those would be the only two counting victories of the evening for the Navy and Gold, though Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues was also impressive in an exhibition win (decision, 8-5).
