GREAT FALLS, Mont. – For the first time in the program's history, the (RV) Corban University women's wrestling team competed at the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships, presented by U.S. Bank. No. 7-ranked Alexys Zepeda made history at the event, tallying a third-place finish in the 155-pound bracket and becoming the first All-Conference honoree in the program's history.

As a team, the Navy and Gold registered a fifth-place finish (34.0 points).

"The girls wrestled hard today," head coach Stryder Davis said after the tournament. "I'm very blessed with this group—they are very talented. Their future in wrestling is bright, and they are even better people."

Zepeda had to bounce back after losing a 7-3 decision to Menlo's Alia Abushi in her first match of the day. Showcasing her resiliency, she then won by technical fall (10-0) against Providence's Dylan Huddy and her teammate Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues (12-2) in order to advance to the third-place match. Facing off with No.8-ranked Dempsi Talkington (Eastern Oregon) in the fight for third, Zepeda won a gritty decision (4-0) to make history as the squad's first-ever All-CCC honoree.

Tata-Rodrigues made it all the way to the semifinals of the 155-pound bracket, before falling to No. 1-ranked Sienna Ramirez (Southern Oregon) by way of pin. After losing to Zepeda, she dropped the fifth-place match to Providence's No. 12 Sadie Antoque (technical fall, 10-0), eventually finishing with a sixth-place finish individually.

Brooke Burrows (101 pounds) also registered a sixth-place finish in the 101-pound bracket, while Tess Barnett (116 pounds) collected a win by technical fall over Menlo's No. 11-ranked Ajayzee Zaballos (10-0) and a pin of Simpson's No. 20 Aphrodite Ayala (2:29) during her journey to a fifth-place finish.

Corban will now look ahead to the final event of the year, sending grapplers to the NAIA Women's Wrestling National Invitational on March 11-12 in Jamestown, N.D.
