CALDWELL, Idaho. – The Corban University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at College of Idaho on Saturday by final scores of 12-6 and 9-4.
Game one saw the Warriors knock 13 hits and score six runs, but unfortunately the Navy and Gold pitching staff combined to walk or hit seven batters, six of which came around to score in the game 1 defeat.
Corban tied the game at 2 in the top of the fourth inning with a Reese Fawley 2-RBI knock, but the Yotes would answer with six runs in the bottom of the frame to blow the contest open. Corban scratched and clawed their way back with runs in the fifth, sixth, and ninth but could not mound the comeback.
Ryan Clay, Estenio Sede, Cale Thompson, and Brian Landon all chipped in multi-hit performances, while Brad Pellkofer added a pinch-hit two-run homer; his first of the season.
Game two was more of the same as one tough frame cost the Warriors. Corban led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third as Kyle Clay and Kairos Torres-Umi tallied sacrifice flys in the second and third innings.
Unfortunately, College of Idaho would strike for four runs, two of which scored on hit by pitches to take a 4-2 lead.
Corban would cut the deficit to 4-3 with a Ty Covalt RBI-double in the 4th inning, but that was as close as the Warriors would get, eventually dropping the contest by a score of 9-4.
Corban (15-18-1, 2-8) returns to the diamond for another critical doubleheader tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. MST.
