SALEM, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) announced on Thursday that Corban University associate athletic director Jarett Thoren has been named the 2022 CCC Mike Booth Sports Information Director of the Year.

The annual award is voted on by the sports information directors of the CCC, recognizing outstanding work in promotion, work with the CCC and NAIA Championship events, publicity, and marketing efforts.

"I am incredibly honored to be named the 2022 CCC SID of the Year," said Thoren. "This conference is full of so many fantastic athletic communications professionals, and I have been honored to work alongside them. I have taken great pride in showcasing the God-given abilities of our student-athletes here at Corban, and they make this job a true joy." 

During his time at Corban, Thoren oversaw an athletic communications department that has won numerous accolades for its coverage of Warrior athletic events, which included national acclaim for creativity in social media marketing and a website that was perennially voted in the top-10 among NAIA institutions.

He played a key role in the construction of the new outdoor athletic complex, and also designed the cutting-edge basketball court design on the new Tim Hills Court in the summer of 2020.

"As anyone in this industry knows, this profession takes a team and a strong support system," Thoren added. "I share this honor with my wife Dani, who has been an incredible support throughout my time at Corban. I cannot give enough credit to my assistant Kasie Kloempken, who has been an integral piece of our department; and lastly, I want to thank our athletic director Sue Roth, who has been an incredible leader and mentor in my life. I am truly humbled and grateful for this recognition."

His varied responsibilities also included photography, videography, graphic design, broadcasting for home events, oversight of the athletics website, and fundraising. The university has seen a 36% percent increase in funds secured to its general operational budget from the time Thoren began as the lead on the department's fundraising efforts.

A month ago, Thoren announced that he will be stepping down from his role as associate athletic director this summer, as he and his wife will be moving this summer to Chatan, Okinawa to serve as missionaries to the United States military community overseas. They will be utilizing their love for athletics to run sports camps and share the Gospel with youth whose families are stationed on the island.

Roth had this to say about Thoren's award, "I am so pleased that Jarett received this prestigious award. Jarett's skill set and gifting as an SID seem unending. He has showcased our athletes in creative and inspiring ways with his unique graphics, great social media posts, and detailed press releases and videos. He did all this while serving as associate athletic director, and organizing our annual Golden Warrior Awards and Warrior Golf Classic. Jarett's devotion to Corban and the many long nights and weekends worked, often go without notice, so I am extremely grateful the CCC has recognized his excellent and hard work."

Thoren will now advance to the NAIA National SID of the Year ballot.
