ASHLAND, Ore. – The final dual matchups of the 2022-23 Corban Men's Wrestling regular season was in store for Warrior Nation this evening at the Lithia Motors Pavilion on Southern Oregon University's campus, where the Navy and Gold earned a double dual split with San Francisco State University and RV Southern Oregon University.
"I'm very encouraged with what I saw on the mats this evening from our guys," Corban Interim Head Coach Kary Hadden said shortly after the split decisions tonight. "With the CCC Championships less than a week away, it was great to see them battle in such a tough place to wrestle and find success anyway they could. I'm looking forward to seeing them all pull together next week in Arizona!"
The Warriors kicked off their double dual evening with the Gators of San Francisco State University, an NCAA DII school that Corban had yet to face in a dual scenario in school history. Freshman Brayden Boyd introduced himself to the ranks of the NCAA in dominate fashion, earning the first of four Warrior pins, this one over San Francisco State's Zach Wright.
SFSU earned a decision in the 133-weight class to follow, as Corban freshman Bo Davis suffered a near decision to Gators' Toni Margiotta, as San Francisco State cut their team deficit in half with an 8-7 win.
Another fall for the Navy and Gold followed for Corban, as freshman Luke Jensen earned his second pin in as many days by downing SFSU's Andre Dargani, pushing the team lead to 12-3.
Back-to-back major decisions for the Gators would follow, as senior Michael Murphy and freshman Jordan Piercy fell 12-1 and 12-4, respectively to their San Francisco counterparts, Joshua Fuentes Norikiyo and Kyle Botelho.
165-weight class redshirt sophomore and No. 4 in the NAIA, Corban's David Rubio, righted the ship for the Warriors after back-to-back match losses, earning a pin of Gators' Conrad Trevino-Oceguera to put the Navy and Gold ahead 18-11.
A technical fall for SFSU put the Gators back within striking range, as Corban freshman Austin Mattson couldn't handle Gage Mettler in a 20-2 loss, bringing the team score back to within a decision.
However, San Francisco State would not see their point total rise again the rest of the evening, as a pin for Warriors' redshirt freshman German Munoz, followed by back-to-back major decisions from sophomore Tyson Stover and junior Sven Lukner, providing the Warriors with a 32-16 dual victory and a two-dual win streak for the first time this season.

The Warriors concluded their regular season and CCC schedule with a dual at RV Southern Oregon University earlier tonight, hoping to avenge a dual loss to the Raiders earlier this season in Salem.
The freshmen trio of Boyd, Davis, and Jensen all got Corban on the board in the first three weight classes, earning a major decision and two-straight decisions, respectively. More impressively, Davis' decision win was over SOU's Simon Graeber, the No. 20 ranked NAIA wrestler for the 133-weight class.
Southern Oregon quickly caught up with a major decision and forfeit win in the 157-weight class, evening the team score at 10-all and reaching the halfway point of the dual. Rubio was able to make quick work of Raiders' Jordan Faifai, but a pin in the first two minutes of the 174 class by SOU's No. 19 ranked wrestler, Alex Hernandez, provided a spark of energy for the Raiders' home crowd that led to another major decision in the 184 group.
Stover earned a much needed 14-4 major decision over Southern Oregon's Andrew Herrera to put the Warriors within two team points of the Raiders. However, SOU's 285-pounder, Antonio Garcia, has been the team's anchor all year long, and was able to score the only takedown of his match with Lukner in the final 15 seconds of the bout to allow the home team to eke out a 23-18 dual win.
