SALEM, Ore. – The RV Corban University Men's Wrestling team put a bow on their 2023-24 home schedule with a dominant victory over NCAA DIII Linfield University, as the Warrior downed the Wildcats 34-13 with a trio of seniors earning their final wins at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
"It was good to honor some of our older wrestlers out there tonight," Warriors' head coach Nolan Harris shared after his team's bounce-back performance. "We opened the dual with a win from Markus and concluded the dual with one from Sven. It was great to see the home fans turn out and support our guys. They did a good job of putting on a show and getting after it and were able to close the home dual meet season with a win. Throughout this season, it's apparent that they feed off our crowd's energy, as we were 6-1 in home duals. I'm glad we finished it right and look forward to getting full force as we head into the conference tournament."
With seniors taking the stage tonight for the Warriors (6-2), senior Markus Johnson kicked off the competition with the quickest first round technical fall thus far this season in the 125-weight class, taking a 19-4 result for a quick 5-0 Corban team lead.
Flipping to the Navy and Gold youngsters, sophomore Brayden Boyd moved up a weight class to battle with the 133-pounders, where he turned a 9-2 lead into an impressive pin over Wildcats' Jacob Moore. Fellow sophomore Luke Jensen earned a pin himself in the 141-weight class, followed by a forfeit weight class victory for Corban's Lance Stover to give the Warriors a 23-0 advantage.
Linfield jumped on the scoreboard in the 149-weight class with a third round pin for Jakob Jarvis, as he took a deficit on the scoreboard and found a unique hold on Warriors' freshman Gus Menne to keep the Wildcats out of shutout territory.
Another technical fall in favor of the Navy and Gold seniors fell in the 165-weight class for senior Matthew Bartlett, taking Wildcats' Brian Walker down with a 19-3 victory. Corban junior Tyson Stover took a slim 10-7 decision over Linfield's Ethan Ensrud in the 184-weight class, which would clinch the dual for the Warriors with three classes remaining.
The visiting squad picked up a major win and narrow decision in the 174 and 184 weight classes to work their way up to a 30-13 deficit with one bout to go between the heavy weights of the 285-pounders. Senior Sven Lukner concluded the evening with a 9-2 decision over Linfield's Julian Ortiz to send the Warrior Nation supporters home with a win on Senior Night.
