ASHLAND, Ore. – After defeating the Raiders 26-10 in their first matchup of the season in Salem, everyone expected the RV Corban University Men's Wrestling team to be challenged this evening on No. 15-ranked Southern Oregon University's home mats, where they fell 35-6 in the final dual of the 2023-24 regular season.
With a majority of the Warriors' top ranked wrestlers still recovering from injuries and starting early preparations for the upcoming conference championships, the No. 15-ranked Raiders ran rampant on Corban's younger core this evening on the program's senior night, as Southern Oregon posted three pins, a technical fall, and four decisions to secure two of the ten weight classes in their favor.
The two lone decisions to fall in favor of the Navy and Gold came in the 165-weight class by senior Matthew Bartlett and in the 285-weight class for senior Sven Lukner. Bartlett snagged a 13-6 win over SOU's Dylan Straley, while Lukner edged Sebastian Echeverria in a narrow 5-1 decision. Lukner's victory over Echeverria provides the Warriors with momentum to build on with the national qualifying meet less than two weeks away, as Echeverria was ranked No. 18-overall in the NAIA for the 285-weight class and will give Lukner an upper hand in the rankings when tournament seeding is announced.
