Corban Women’s Soccer Contest with RV Oregon Tech Decided by Second Half Penalty Kick

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University Women's Soccer team was unable to overcome a penalty kick opportunity provided to the visiting Lady Owls of RV Oregon Tech earlier this afternoon, suffering a 1-0 defeat in their Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) home opener to fall to 1-1 in conference play.

"Our Ladies played really well today," explained Corban head coach Travez Whyte. "I know the result doesn't show that, but I'm proud of everyone's effort and quality that was showcased today. There were moments out of our control, but we also had lots of moments to control our own outcome. Tomorrow is another day to battle, and we are ready to do so. As always, huge thanks to our supporting Warriors!"

Being outshot 15-6 on the day, the Warriors (4-3-1, 1-1-0) had their fair share of opportunities to score this afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex (OAC) yet came up short on each occasion against the Lady Owls (7-1-1, 3-0-0). After a scoreless opening half, OIT was awarded the penalty kick they would need to escape Salem with a victory and keep their winning streak alive after a questionable Corban foul was called in the Warriors' penalty box. Lady Owls' midfielder Kiana Jacobson converted the try for her sixth-straight game with a goal to secure the road win for Oregon Tech.

Corban freshman forward Maya Alston continues to impress in her true freshman campaign, leading the team with three shots and a pair of shots on goal in 85 minutes of play. Warriors' sophomore goalkeeper Ava Hayes hauled in three saves before being pulled following a collision in the goal box, eventually taking the loss against her season record.

OIT goalkeeper Sydni Nakamura pitched a shutout between the posts through a complete game effort, turning away four shots on goal to earn her seventh win of the season. Jacobson paced the Lady Owls' offense with four shots, two on goal, and the game-winning PK.

The Warriors look to right the ship tomorrow afternoon as they welcome Southern Oregon University (5-2-0, 2-1-0) to the OAC at 12pm.
