Undefeated Weekend Locks Up CCC Men’s Wrestler of the Week Honor for Downing

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office has announced the McDonald's CCC Players of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network, for the competitions held between November 3rd  to 9th, where the No. 20-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling team saw one of their upperclassmen named to the Men's Wrester of the Week award for a second time in two seasons following a dominant showing at the 2025 Mike Clock Open. Junior Jr Downing clinched the weekly award presented by the CCC following a 5-0 appearance in Forest Grove which included a pair of wins over NCAA DI wrestlers.

"After dropping his first two matches of the season, Jr has rebounded well with ten-straight victories and two tournament wins," Warriors' head coach Nolan Harris stated when he learned of Downing's award. "He's focused on putting a lot of points on the board and has been able to do so with his mental preparation and training. He is finding ways to open up a lead when he can and close out tight matches when need be. He's been exciting to watch, and we look forward to the rest of his season."

Downing was unstoppable this weekend for the Navy and Gold, as he racked up five wins en route to a Mike Clock Open individual weight class title for 157lbs. After tech falling his opponents from host Pacific University and Umpqua Community College, he pinned his NCAA DII opponent Joe Anthony Perez of Cal Poly Humboldt in 4:44, setting up a showdown with back-to-back NCAA DI grapplers from Oregon State University.

In the semifinal bout against Beau Priest, Downing nearly registered a major decision over his DI foe in a 14-7 decision, while he scored a late takedown in the championship match against Koy Davidson to win 6-1 and clinch his second tourney crown in as many opportunities.

Following their two-week hiatus, Downing and the rest of the Warriors will be in action at the Spokane Open, which will take place on Sunday, November 23rd at The Podium, which is an Olympic training facility in Spokane, Washington.
