KLAMATH FALLS/PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University Men's and Women's Track & Field teams split up this weekend by sending a majority of the Warriors to the Oregon Tech Invite in the Klamath Basin, while the long-distance crews traveled to Portland in an attempt to avoid the higher elevation and in turn, earned a national-qualifying mark by one of their top runners.
"Our team was spread out over three meets over the past two days this weekend and performed well, highlighted by Jack's 10,000m run and Gabby's hammer throw," explained Corban head coach Todd Bos. "We are really excited to host our very first outdoor meet at the OAC next weekend. It's crunch time of the season for our track and field athletes as the conference meet and class finals draw near. We pray God continues to give us strength, wisdom, and a heart to honor Him as we wrap up this year."
After qualifying for the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2024, sophomore Jack Gladfelter found success in a new event today with a 30:30.74 final time in the men's 10,000m race, hitting the B-standard by over 20 seconds and just missing out on the A-standard by seven seconds of the sport's longest event in PDX. Gladfelter's finish marks the seventh-fastest mark in the NAIA this season with at least two meets to go before the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships. Alongside Gladfelter in Portland, graduate student Forrest Cooley (32:56.08) hit the CCC qualifying time to earn the program yet another conference qualifier.
Senior thrower Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues bested the school record she set in her most recent outing of the women's hammer throw, as she took the event today in Klamath Falls by nearly five meters and increased her school record by just under an entire meter at 48.58m, inching closer by the toss to the NAIA national qualifying mark.
Also securing event wins today at the OIT Invite, hosted by CCC member Oregon Tech, alongside Tata-Rodrigues included junior DJ Armstead (men's 100m – 10.89), freshman Grace Dawkins (women's 800m – 2:35.57), redshirt junior Kayla Morgan (women's high jump – 1.63m), and redshirt junior Anthony Salisbury (men's javelin – 55.74m).
Next Saturday, April 26th, the Warriors will host their first ever outdoor track & field meet at the Outdoor Athletic Complex, as they'll host the inaugural Nancy & Norm Berney Classic throughout the day as well as honoring their senior student-athletes.
