KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2024-25 National Awards Day recipients earlier today, including the NAIA Scholar Teams from the most recent academic school year. Corban University Athletics was for a second-consecutive year, a perfect 17-for-17 in varsity sports earning the recognition of NAIA Scholar Team, marking just the second time ever that 100% of the Warrior-sponsored programs have been selected to the prestigious academic title in a single year. In order to be eligible for the NAIA Scholar Team status, programs must maintain a team-wide cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale throughout the entire academic year.
"These student-athletes are getting it done both in the classroom and in competition," shared Warriors' director of athletics Bill Pilgeram earlier today. "We are so proud of the quality student-athletes our coaches have recruited and how hard they work throughout the entire Corban community."
Of the thousands of programs to have qualified across the country, 121 of those teams originated from the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC). Both the Warriors men's and women's cross country teams placed within the top ten among their respective NAIA long-distance opponents, as well as the men's and women's track & field programs. Meanwhile, indoor women's volleyball was one of five teams with a GPA of 3.70 or higher and represented one of two that also reached the national quarterfinal stage of the NAIA National Tournament.
The Corban indoor women's volleyball team also led all Navy and Gold squads with a 3.70 cumulative GPA in 2024-25, just two 100ths of a GPA point higher than the women's cross country team who finished in second at 3.68 overall. Following indoor volleyball and women's cross country was indoor/outdoor women's track & field (3.59), women's basketball (3.56), and women's beach volleyball (3.52) to round out the top give GPAs within the Corban athletic department.
The entire list of Corban teams to qualify for 2024-25 Scholar Team status today include: women's volleyball (3.70), women's cross country (3.68), women's track & field (3.59), women's basketball (3.56), women's beach volleyball (3.52), men's cross country (3.47), women's soccer (3.44), softball (3.39), women's golf (3.36), men's track & field (3.31), baseball (3.23), men's soccer (3.13), men's golf (3.08), men's wrestling (3.08), and men's golf (3.07). Over 73% of Warriors qualified for the Academic All-Conference requirements last year, the best mark in school history, and thus qualified the university for President's Cup status from the CCC office once again. The department secured a cumulative GPA of 3.35, which was the seventh highest among full-time CCC members while their 73% Academic All-Conference percentage tied for fourth.
