SALEM, Ore. – In their first outing of the 2025-26 regular season since the end of their fall schedule last November, the Corban University Men's and Women's Golf programs completed a one-day dual with fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) member and I-5 rival Bushnell University, where the Warriors dropped the team results on both sides to the Beacons. In the men's round, Bushnell's top squad (295) clinched a seven-stroke win over the Warriors (302) top five bags, while the Beacons B-team (317) was just two strokes better than the Navy and Gold reserves (319). For the ladies, Bushnell (344) claimed a 16-stroke team win over the Dubs (360) to open the spring slate.
"Our day did not go as planned as we struggled to find any consistency either shot-by-shot or hole-by-hole," began Warriors' head coach Charlie Marshall when asked to discuss his men's team results from today's spring opener. "It was great that our top five with a few from the second squad all shot in the seventies, but we all left too many shots out there in our attempt to beat Bushnell."
When asked to detail the women's competition today, Marshall shared, "Kudos to Yaone for a great round of 83. She played pretty consistent with the exception of a few holes. But, as a team, we had a hard time managing the greens as they were faster than normal and had some strange breaks. We've got a couple weeks to work on some things before our next tourney."
The top Corban performers from both squads today at Creekside Golf Club were represented by junior David Harvey and sophomore Yaone Mokgatle, who shot rounds of 74 and 83, respectively. Rounding out the women's team score was sophomore Madelyn Moore (91), sophomore Ashlyn Thomas (93), and freshman Jaycie Moubray (93), while the Warrior men's squad all earned rounds within the 70s alongside Harvey that included freshman Isaac Laro (75), senior Brayden Sparkman (76), senior Andy Austen (77), and junior Owen Heath (77). Beacons' Matthew Forsyth (72) and Kylie Smith (78) claimed top medalist honors for the men's and women's duals.
A quick turnaround for the men's squad as they'll participate in the Beacons' annual Bandon Crossings Collegiate Match Play next weekend on the south coast of Oregon, while the ladies will be off until March 14th and 15th when they return to Creekside for the Willamette Valley Cup, hosted by NCAA DIII Willamette University.
