BANDON, Ore. – The Corban University Men's Golf team began the annual Bandon Crossings Collegiate Match Play tourney hosted by Bushnell University at Bandon Crossings Golf Course earlier today, where the Warriors played out a 2-2 draw with the Beacons to settle for a first round two points, just one point off the top spot on leaderboard.
"Our team of eight played exceptionally well today," began Corban head coach Charlie Marshall. We dueled Bushnell hole-by-hole and had great opportunities to win the match 3-1 but ended up tied at the very end."
The Navy and Gold were led by senior Brayden Sparkman and junior Owen Heath, alongside senior Shane Jacobus and freshman Isaac Laro who picked up 3 & 1 match play wins to represent the program's two victories over the Beacons. Junior David Harvey and senior Andy Austen dropped a narrow 2 & 1 decision, while freshmen Brendan Barbeau and Bo Purnell fell in a 4 & 3 result. In typical match play scoring, the first number indicates the number of holes the leading duo was ahead of the their competition, with the second representing the number of holes remaining.
Tomorrow morning, the men's golf team is back in action against Simpson University as they look to move up the team standings and past the first-place Red Hawks, with tee times scheduled for 10:20am.
