"I was really excited to see how the men were playing today, they were definitely on their A-game," shared Corban head coach Charlie Marshall earlier this evening. "I believe our tournament in Pasco earlier this month was beneficial for the guys as a kick-starter for this tourney. It was kind of a topsy-turvy day through, we were in the lead at one point and UBC was down low, and then we kind of ran out of gas at the end of the first round to drop back to sixth. But then, we fought back in the second round and just kept grinding. Great job by Isaac, Shane, and Brayden especially, as those three really led this day one success for the men. We did experience some heavy rain for about 20 minutes, which made it difficult on the ground with some wet and muddy conditions, which resulted in slower greens and longer holes for our guys to accumulate to the changes. Overall, just really excited for the men after how hard they've worked to this point of the season and just starting to see their efforts pay off. They'll be ready to go out in the morning and finish strong."
The University of British Columbia (583) rallied after trailing by multiple strokes following the opening round to lead Lewis-Clark State College (586) by three strokes entering the final 18 holes tomorrow, while Bushnell University (592) and Corban (599) are right behind the CCC leaders in third and fourth, respectively. The host Knights (600) are a single stroke back of the Warriors, while Oregon Tech (601), Southern Oregon University (602), The College of Idaho (614), and Walla Walla University (631) bring up the back half of the team standings.
All of the Warriors' top four bags are nestled within the top 30 individuals following the day one rounds, with one contending in the top ten and another knocking on the door. Senior Shane Jacobus (146) is the day one leader for the Dubs after completing back-to-back rounds of even par, putting him in a three-way tie for seventh out of the 53-man field. Freshman Isaac Laro (149) bounced back with the best second round of the team at two under par, allowing him to propel up the standings by 22 placements to enter a crowded seven-man tie for 11th place. Senior Brayden Sparkman (152) and junior David Harvey (153) are in ties for 27th and 30th, respectively, to round out the team scoring today for Corban. The final team bag for the Dubs was represented by senior Andy Austen (156), who is in tie for 39th with junior Owen Heath (156) who is golfing as an individual this week in PDX.
The final round of the Tournament of Knights begins tomorrow morning back at Glendoveer Golf Course, representing the final 18 holes of the regular season for the Warriors.
