Tsugawa Nets Two Goals Against Oregon Tech

BOX SCORE

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.
– Sophomore Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.) scored a pair of second half goals against Oregon Tech, but it was not enough as Corban's women's soccer team fell to the Owls, 3-2, on a last-minute penalty kick Friday at Trevor Derrah Field.

After falling behind 2-0 earlier in the second half, Tsugawa netted two goals in a span of less than six minutes off assists by senior Katie Hanson (Salem, Ore.). Unfortunately, the Warriors' valiant comeback was halted when OIT's Brooke Cole scored the game-winner on a penalty kick with 19 seconds showing on the clock for the one-goal Oregon Tech victory.

Following a scoreless opening 31-plus minutes, Oregon Tech got on the board first when Jessica Bath took a throw-in from Owls' teammate Taryn Urmson and netted the game's first goal in the 32nd minute.

The host Owls would hold a slim one-goal lead at the half and then extended their lead to two goals in the 60th minute when Andrea Perez netted an unassisted goal on a breakaway goal that handed Oregon Tech a two-goal advantage with 30 minutes remaining.

Corban would finally get on the board in the 79th minute when Tsugawa scored her fifth goal of the season via a header off a corner kick by Hanson that cut the Warriors' deficit in half.

In the 85th minute, Tsugawa would net her team-leading sixth goal of the season via a direct kick off the foot of Hanson that knotted the game at 2-2 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

Both teams would fight back and forth over the next four minutes until Oregon Tech was awarded a penalty kick following a Warrior foul in the box. With just 19 ticks left on the game clock, OIT's Cole stepped up and deposited the game-winner into the back of the net leading to the Owls' opening conference victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Beattie (Brea, Calif.) would record a game-high six saves for the Warriors, while OIT's Anna Tozier snagged five saves en route to picking up the win.

Following today's result, Corban falls to 8-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference games. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech improves to 6-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league games. The Warriors will return to the field tomorrow – Saturday, October 2nd – against the Raiders of Southern Oregon beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Ashland.
