Seven Warriors Compete on Day #1 of WU Invite

DAY #1 RESULTS

SALEM, Ore.
– On the opening day of the Willamette Invitational, Corban's men's and women's track & field team had seven runners compete in five events Friday evening on Charles Bowles Track at McCullough Stadium.

Day #1 of the third largest track & field meet on the West Coast behind the Stanford Invitational and Oregon Relays would involve ten events, including the hammer throw, 10,000 meter run, 3,000 meter steeplechase, 1,500 meter run, and 5,000 meter run.

Corban's evening would begin with sophomore Jennifer Hague (Florence, Ore.) posting a school-record time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase en route to finishing second. Hague's time of 12:19.90 lowered her own school record, while also moving up in the conference rankings thanks to her automatic qualifying time for this year's conference championship meet. The second-year Warrior also moved within 20 seconds of meeting the NAIA's "B" qualification mark for the national championships.

In the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior Jason Hardrath (Baker, Ore.) finished 14th overall thanks to a time of 10:49.57 en route to qualifying for the Cascade Collegiate Conference championships.

Sophomores Courtney Welling (Springfield, Ore.) and Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.) were the next Warriors to step onto the track in the women's 1,500 meter run, as Welling finished 27th overall in a time of 5:06.06 and Renfro concluded the race in 35th place thanks to a time of 5:26.14.

In the men's 1,500 meter run, sophomore Caleb Goins (Scio, Ore.) and freshman Taylor Adrian (Portland, Ore.) finished 16th and 34th respectively with times of 4:02.79 and 4:09.82.

Freshman David Brown (Meridian, Idaho) would be the final Warrior runner for the night in the men's 5,000 meter run, as the first-year Corban competitor finished 49th overall in a time of 15:52.95. Brown's time was good enough to meet the minimum qualification mark for the upcoming conference championships, while missing the program's season best mark by less than one second.

Corban's track & field teams will return to the oval tomorrow – Saturday, April 3rd – for the second and final day of the Willamette Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Charles Bowles Track at McCullough Stadium.
