BOX SCORE
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Sophomore
Rileigh Mankin (Manteca, Calif.) netted the game-winning goal in the 95th minute, as Corban's women's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Eastern Oregon in overtime Saturday at EOU's Soccer Complex.
With the win, Corban improves to 11-6-0 overall and 5-3-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Warriors can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot with either a win or tie on Monday against The College of Idaho, while a loss will eliminate Corban from the playoff picture for the first time in head coach
Marty Ziesemer's career.
The visiting Warriors used a goal in the 95th minute of the first extra period for the victory. Corban defeated EOU for the 11th time out of 12 all-time meetings and dropped the Mountaineers to 3-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in league action.
Corban dominated the offensive side of the ball, recording 31 shots to Eastern's five. The Warriors put 13 shots on goal, while EOU had two.
Junior
Brittany Bowman (Shelton, Wash.) found the back of the net in the 11th minute with an assist from fellow junior
Emily Tsugawa (Gladstone, Ore.). It was the first of two assists for Tsugawa on the day, and her eighth and ninth this season to go along with Bowman's fifth goal of the year.
In the 38th minute, Eastern Oregon's Senora Lankert found fellow Mountaineer teammate Erika Whitehurst for the equalizing goal. It was Whitehurst's second goal and Lankert's first assist this season.
Since neither teams scored against over the final 52 minutes, the game would go into overtime with the first goal ending the contest.
Mankin placed a ball high in the left side of the net just inside the 18-yard box six minutes into the first extra period off a perfectly placed ball by Tsugawa, as Mankin's right foot shot found the back of the goal for the game-winner at the 94:35 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alexis Beattie (Brea, Calif.) needed to make only one save en route to picking up the victory, while Eastern Oregon's Chantal Schefers tallied a game-high 11 saves despite allowing both goals.
The Warriors finished with nine corner kicks, while Eastern had zero in the game. Each team finished with nine fouls.
Corban will return to the field for its final game of the regular season on Monday, October 31st, against The College of Idaho beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
