Warriors Extend Unbeaten Streak to Three With Win

BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Thanks to a penalty kick by senior Emily Boudreau in the first half and an insurance goal in the second half by freshman Allyson Irwin, Corban's women's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to three games with a 2-0 victory over Cascade Collegiate Conference rival Northwest Christian Friday at Warrior Field.

Corban (7-5-2, 3-1-1 CCC) dominated Northwest Christian (3-9-1, 1-3-1 CCC) throughout the game, as the host Warriors compiled a 14-shot advantage (21-to-7) that included a 10-to-2 difference in shots on goal.

"I was pleased with how we came out today and set the tone," said head coach Marty Ziesemer. "We created quite a few chances for ourselves and we were just unlucky not to score a few more goals. Our defensive intensity is what we have been practicing all week so it was good to see us be effective. NCU is a very stingy team defensively and we had to earn every shot. Nothing came easy. It was nice to see our reserves create both goals for us."

Northwest Christian's goalkeeper Kristin Fulbright came up with a pair of fingertip saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless until a NCU foul inside the box at the 40:08 mark set-up Boudreau's game-winning goal. Taking the first penalty kick of the season, Boudreau stepped up and calmly deposited her shot into the lower right corner of the goal for her third score of the season.

Neither team would score again over the final four-plus minutes of the first half, as Corban clung to a one-goal lead at halftime.

In the second half, Corban began controlling the offensive from the kick off thanks to some swift ball handling by senior Audrey Sullivan that set up junior Sierra Brusven's shot that sailed inches to the left of the post setting the tone for the second half. The host Warriors would have a few more opportunities to add to their lead that included a shot by Sullivan in the 64th minute that hit the cross bar only to be cleared away by a NCU defender.

A little over 13 minutes later, Irwin would add her second goal of the season in the 79th minute off an assist from fellow freshman Olivia Erskine that extended the Warriors' lead to two goals at the 78:31 mark. Erskine would begin the scoring play by collecting a loose ball at midfield and dribbling down the far sideline. After eluding a NCU defender, Erskine sent a through ball to Irwin that she collected before spinning around a Beacon player to find herself one-on-one with Fulbright. With NCU's goalkeeper crashing down on her, Irwin lofted a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for the final score of the afternoon.

The goalkeeping duo of junior Kaitlyn Mendenhall and senior Alexis Beattie would split time between the pipes for Corban, as both net-minders registered a save during their time between the pipes for the home team. At the other end of the field, Fulbright tallied a game-high eight saves for Northwest Christian.

Corban would earn nine more corner kicks (11-to-2) than Northwest Christian that included a 8-to-0 advantage in the first half, as the Warriors were whistled for five more fouls (11-to-6) than the visiting Beacons.

The Warriors will return to action on Thursday, October 24th, against The College of Idaho beginning at 2:00 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time) at Simplot Stadium in Caldwell, Idaho.
