BOX SCORE
SALEM, Ore. – Senior
Audrey Sullivan scored a pair of goals and handed out an assist in a season-opening 4-0 victory by Corban's women's soccer team over Bethesda University of California Tuesday in an non-conference game on Warrior Field.
With today's victory, Corban improves to 1-0-0 on the season and Bethesda falls to 0-3-0 on the year.
Corban controlled the offensive flow throughout the game, as the Warrior defense held Bethesda without a shot during the entire 90-minute contest.
Sullivan would score the eventual game-winning goal in the 25th minute when she took a through ball from fellow senior
Emily Boudreau. At the 24:46 mark, Boudreau would thread a pass through the Bethesda defense onto the awaiting foot of Sullivan, who went one-on-one with the Flames' goalkeeper before depositing her shot into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead for Corban.
Less than thirteen minutes later, Sullivan would net her second goal of the game when she took the ball down the far sideline, beat a defender, and unleashed a rocket shot from 20 yards out over the outstretched arm of Bethesda's keeper and into the upper right corner of the goal for a 2-0 Corban advantage.
In the 43rd minute, Sullivan would be the assist person this team as she chipped a pass over the Bethesda defense to junior
Sierra Brusven who calmly one-timed a shot into the back of the net to give Corban a three-goal advantage heading into halftime.
In the 47th minute, sophomore
Randi Donahue would get into the scoring act when she received a pass from Boudreau behind Bethesda's defense setting her up for a one-on-one opportunity with the Flames' net-minder. Donahue would send a shot through the keeper's legs and into the back of the net for the final goal of the game, as Corban secured the four-goal victory.
Junior
Kaitlyn Mendenhall and senior
Alexis Beattie would split time between the pipes for Corban, as neither net-minder was challenged thanks to a strong Warrior defense that did not allow Bethesda one single opportunity to sniff the goal or get off a potential scoring shot. On the other hand, Bethesda's Erika Trejo would register a game-high 12 saves despite allowing all four goals. Trejo would face 28 shots by Corban, as 16 of them were on-target.
As a team, Corban outshot Bethesda, 28-0, that included a 16-0 advantage in shot-on-goal.
Corban will return to action on Saturday, August 31st, when the Warriors take on Saint Martin's in a non-conference game that is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Warrior Field in Salem.
