Second Game in California Gets Away From Warriors

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – In its second game in Southern California, Corban's women's soccer team came away on the wrong end of the scoreboard falling to Golden State Athletic Conference member The Master's College, 3-0, Saturday at Reese Field.

With today's result, Corban falls to 2-2-1 on the season. Meanwhile, The Master's improves to 6-0-0 this year, as the Mustangs have outscored their opponents 25-4 so far this season.

For the Warriors, junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mendenhall registered a game-high six saves in 90 minutes of action between the pipes. Seniors Emily Boudreau and Tera McDonough led Corban's offense with three shots each, as the Warriors played a better offensive game today versus Thursday night against nationally-ranked Biola.

The Master's would get on the board in the 10th minute when McKinley Kane scored an unassisted goal at the 9:17 mark to give the host Mustangs an early 1-0 lead. TMC would cling to its slim one-goal lead heading into halftime, as the Mustangs controlled the offensive flow over the opening 45 minutes registering five more shots (9-to-4) than Corban.

In the second half, Corban would turn the table on The Master's, as the Warriors registered four more shots (9-to-5) than the host Mustangs but TMC would capitalize on 40% of its shots scoring two more goals over the final 45 minutes.

Early in the second half, The Master's would get a goal from Jordan Benson off an assist by Jessica Long at the 46:21 mark to give the Mustangs a two-goal advantage.

The game would remain a two-goal difference until the 78th minute when Mackenzie Taylor teamed with Long for TMC's third goal of the afternoon, as Long tallied her second assist of the contest.

Corban's best scoring opportunity came in the game's final minute when freshman Allyson Irwin unleashed a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar, as the buzzer sounded to close the book on The Master's three-goal victory.

The Master's Ilyssa Espiritu played all 90 minutes for the Mustangs and registered five saves en route to securing the shutout victory.

Overall, The Master's outshot Corban by one shot (14-to-13) with the Mustangs putting nine shots on-target compared to Corban's five.

Corban will close out its three-game Southern California road trip on Monday, September 9th, against the NAIA's No. 18-ranked Warriors of Westmont beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Santa Barbara, California.
