BOX SCORE CALDWELL, Idaho. – The Corban University men's soccer team traveled to Caldwell, Idaho on Tuesday afternoon for its final regular-season contest of the 2014 season, and despite scoring a pair of second-half goals, the Warriors fell to The College of Idaho, 7-2. The loss ended Corban's six-match winning streak against the Yotes.
With sophomore defender Tim Kagey (West Linn, Ore.) filling in on the day in the goalkeeper position for the Warriors, the Navy and Gold and the Yotes battled during the first 25 minutes with no score coming on either side. The Yotes then exploded over the course of the next 12 minutes, however, scoring four times in quick succession to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
Looking to come out and respond in the second stanza, the Warriors took a hit right away as College of Idaho's Joseph Bolin scored from the midfield line straight from the kickoff, making it a 5-0 contest.
The Navy and Gold did respond immediately with a goal of its own, with senior defender Daniel Fredrickson (Boise, Idaho) heading home a cross off a corner-kick from senior forward Derik Chaney (Helena, Mont.) before a minute had been played in the second half. Ten minutes later, senior forward Arsinio Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) found the back of the net when he scored a penalty kick, cutting the deficit to just three.
The Yotes (8-10-0, 5-9-0 CCC) answered right back with a goal in the 58th minute, however, and tacked on one more in the 70th minute of play to seal the five-goal triumph.
For the match, College of Idaho outshot Corban, 20-12. Joseph Bolin recorded a hat-trick on the day for the Yotes, while four other players scored as well. For Corban, Walker led the way with four shots, while sophomore midfielder Kemar Prince (Kingston, Jamaica) added two shots.
"We faced some difficult challenges today that proved to be too much to overcome," commented head coach Aaron Lewis. "With that said, this group continues to stay strong together and will be ready come next week to defend our title."
Corban (10-7-1, 8-5-1 CCC) now must await Saturday's Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) men's soccer results to see whether or not it will enter the CCC Tournament as the third seed or the fourth seed. Stay tuned for details moving forward.
