Warrior Women’s Soccer Ready to Keep Season Alive with CCC Tourney Aspirations

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team knows that in order to keep its season alive, it will need to take it one match at a time, and it all starts Wednesday at the 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament. The Warriors will need to win three times this week in order to book their spot in the NAIA National Tournament.

Tournament Central

The CCC Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, is set to take place at the Willamalane Complex in Springfield, Ore. Corban serves as the No. 8 seed in the tournament, and is slated to take on No. 1-seeded Eastern Oregon University at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning. This marks the third-straight year that the Warriors have competed under head coach Likius Hafeni in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinals.

Corban enters the CCC Tourney as the No. 8 overall seed after finishing the 2018 regular season with a 9-8 overall record and a 6-6 mark in CCC play. The Warriors will take on the top-seeded EOU Mountaineers which finished the year 13-1-2 overall and 9-1-2 in CCC play. When the two teams met back in October, EOU defeated Corban, 1-0.

Corban is led offensively by Rylee Macdonald, as she found the back of the net eight times on the year to go with one assist. While playing in just 13 of Corban's matches, Hannah Shore figures to be a key factor on Wednesday for the Navy and Gold, as she scored six times and also recorded one assist. Additionally, Eve Ponce scored three times while Lexi McQueary and Emma Kosmala each found the finishing touch twice on the season.

Defensively, Elizabeth Brock was outstanding between the pipes for Corban, racking up 100 saves en route to registering five shutouts. On the year, she finished with a 1.16 goals-against-average and a .833 save percentage.

Eastern Oregon, which already has a spot in the NAIA National Championships thanks to earning the No. 1 overall seed in the CCC, is led by Taylor Boyer with 13 goals and five assists, while MacKinley Gregus found the back of the net on 10 occasions while also totaling two assists. Defensively, Cydni Cottrell finished the year with a 0.70 goals-against-average, making 49 saves with a .831 save percentage, tallying seven individual shutouts.

The CCC's first automatic berth to nationals went to the CCC regular-season No. 1 seed, Eastern Oregon; and the CCC's second automatic berth to nationals goes to the winner of the CCC Tournament. If the Mountaineers were to win the CCC tournament, then the tournament runner-up would receive the conference's second automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament.

Live stats/live video will be available for all games of the CCC Soccer Tournament.

Prior to the beginning of competition, each team will attend the CCC Soccer Banquet, set to take place on Tuesday evening (November 6) in Eugene, Ore. The CCC Women's Soccer All-Conference teams are set to be announced at the event, with multiple Warrior players on path to contend for the honors.
