EAGLE POINT, Ore. – The Corban University men's golf team kicked off the spring portion of its 2020-21 season at the Oregon Tech Spring Invite on Monday and Tuesday, squaring off with a slew of familiar foes from throughout the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) in the squad's first competition since November 8-9, 2020.
The Warriors placed sixth as a team at the conference gathering, totaling 951 (+87) strokes as a unit. The event was hyper-competitive, as only 17 strokes separated the second and sixth-place teams.
RESULTS
Kasey Crossland headlined the two-day tournament for the Navy and Gold, finishing in a tie for third overall in his best individual performance of the 2020-21 season. In addition, it's his best placement since 2017, when he also landed in third at the CCC Championships.
Crossland's consistency was key to his success, as he established a new season-low round of 75 strokes in the first 18 holes of the event, before repeating that tally in round two. He shot a 76 on Tuesday, finishing at 10-over 226 for the entire tournament, just three strokes off the pace of medalist Mayson Tibbs from (RV) Oregon Tech.
McKinnley Reznicsek cut four strokes off his previous low-round of the season with a 76-stroke effort (+4) in the first 18 holes of the event. He would follow that up with rounds of 81 (+9) and 77 (+5), good enough for a 12th-place spot on the leaderboard overall.
Coming in third for the Warriors and tied for 22nd overall, Nick Torry signed his scorecard with a 24-over-240, while Riley White rounded out the Navy and Gold's four scorers with his three-round total (88, 81, 83) of 252 (+36).
In the first look at the conference landscape, it is clear that the CCC boasts a number of talented golfers and squads. With so much riding on the next three events, numerous schools are in the hunt for the conference's automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships.
Corban will look to continue improving as it aims to peak at the CCC Championships on April 26-27. The Warriors' next event will be the Lewis-Clark State Invite on March 22-23, hosted at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club.
