Corban Track & Field Shows Continued Growth at Lane CC Open

EUGENE, Ore. – The Corban University track & field teams continued to build upon their strong start to the 2022 campaign on Saturday, ramping up with a meet at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore.

RESULTS

"We had quite the weather day with a beautiful start and a wet and windy end," head coach Todd Bos said. "We are looking forward to our annual dual with Willamette on Thursday. We will have our entire team competing for the first time this year and would appreciate the support of Warrior Nation!"

On the women's side, Valerie Schmidt headlined the Navy and Gold, showing no signs of rust after rehabbing the injury that cost her the late portion of the 2021 spring season. She clocked a time of 15.04 seconds (CCC qualifying mark) in the 100-meter hurdles to top of a field of 15, and she also cleared a height of 5' 0.5" in the high jump, edging her teammate Kayla Morgan to take home the individual title in that event, as well.

"Valerie had a very nice race for her inaugural 100-meter hurdle competition," Bos added. "This was a good confidence building race and should portend to faster times in the future."

Morgan leaped a 4' 11.5" mark to finish as the runner-up and qualify for conference, as the Warrior duo dominated the top end of the event.

Jaelene Diaz-Chavez' 111' 7" (12th place) throw in the hammer qualified her for the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) meet as well, also serving as the fifth-best mark in program history.

"Jaelene has been improving in the hammer and it was nice to see her hit the conference qualifying mark," Bos stated.

Maggie Ramey also booked her ticket to the CCC meet in the pole vault, vaulting a height of 9' 0.5" on Saturday.

Hero Peters continues to storm out of the gates in the 2022 season, clocking a time of 13.05 seconds to place sixth out of 19 in a competitive 100-meter dash field.

In the javelin, Keelyn O'Reilly hurled a 112' 11" toss in her second meet as a Warrior, good enough for fourth place overall. Meanwhile, Schmidt's 36' 2" mark in the shot put landed her in sixth on the performance list.

For the men, the 4x400-meter relay team—comprised of Jacob Moore, Seth Tripp, Caleb Schmoll, and Noah Miller—put together a runner-up effort on Saturday, combining for a time of 3:31.24.

Speaking on the quartet's effort, Bos said: "The men in the 4x4 raced a focused race in less-than-ideal conditions."

Individually, Tripp also earned a top-10 finish in a 32-athlete field in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh with his 22.99-second effort.

Corban's next meet will take place in the capital city, as the Warriors head across town to face off in a dual against Willamette University on March 17. The competition is set to begin at 4 p.m.
